The MD11 has the old-style WBC seat. The seat has PTV, but no AVOD. There is a 60" pitch and 150 degree recline. I am always quite comfortable in this seat, but I usually don't sleep onboard.
Try to get row 1 or 2. These rows are just behind the cockpit, in a 2-2-2 configuration, whereas rows 5,6 en 7 are 2-3-2. (there's no row 3 and 4)
So far I have only flown KL and NW in business class, so I cannot give a judgement if KL is better than xxx or yyy-airlines. I do read most of the trip reports and from that I can say that KL is offering a O.K. product but certainly nothing special compared to BA, AF or LH.

Flew on one two weeks ago to DXB (PH-KCA and KCI). A short flight but long enough to appreciate things. Seating is 2-2-2 in the forward cabin and 2-3-2 in the second cabin. I was in the first row of the middle block of the first cabin (work that one out). If you sit on the right hand side (looking towards the cockpit) the cabin crew slide a partition door between the pax cabin and the galley, thereby significantly reducing traffic to the galley etc. As the toilets are to the rear of the first cabin, this also keeps traffic down the aisles to a minimum. This keeps noise down. I found there was plenty leg room. The seats do not lie flat - I would say 150-160 degrees. The seats are a bit beat up.
Standard KLM catering - solid, not flash. Make sure you get one of the little Delft houses (I have 25). Amenity bag seems to be one they share with NW.
KLM make sure that J-class pax are first to get off the flight, blocking Y-class pax at the bulkheads. This is less of an issue at AMS where they use the forward and second doors for boarding and disembarkation.

A colleague took the IB from LIM to MAD (he has also done the LIM-AMS too). He said the IB lie-flat J-class was excellent. I do not know the details of whether IB offers the new business seat all of the time to LIM, but he was impressed, and he is a KLM fan.
