Have you flown VS? If so, what did you think of it? What was the best and worst parts? Was it good value? Memorable? What routing(s)?

I have always wanted to fly Virgin though to be honest reading the mixed reviews I am not sure that I am willing to go out of my way to try them, from what I have read they do run very hot or cold no happy medium.

I would rather visit the dentist than fly VS.
I refuse to put any of my hard earned money the way of Branson. Can't stand the bloke

I think that this maybe has a lot to do with the profile of the crew. Being crew isn't about great night stops and travel perks; it's about the safety and wellbeing of fare paying passengers.

There are many VS crew members that have wanted to join because of the glamorous Virgin image. Not realizing that it takes effort to uphold high standards, just looking pretty isn't enough.

There are some fantastic crew members at VS, but unfortunately there are some that have a "holier than thou attitude" towards other crew members, especially towards new ones. This can often spill over into the cabin with passengers.

I think this is the case for every airline. You get good crew and those who went in for the glamour, only to be disappointed by the fact that have to work. This is certainly NOT unique to VS.

I absolutely agree with you. Maybe I should have said that in my original statement. I for one am proud to be working for Virgin Atlantic and believe that they are way ahead of the vast majority of airlines.

YES SIR!
You want specifications, you got specifications! here you so :
It was great because:
1. The aircraft was good, clean, smelt good and all that despite being a not so new A340.
2. The service was just impeccable, they were there for any request of yours and most of the time they were so helpful that you never felt the need to call them.
3. Their massage service onboard is real nice and relaxing.
4. The bar is useful because you can go there pour yourself a drink and just sit and relax.
5. The F/A's were very polite and curtious despite being harassed by like 200 indians flying for the first time.
6. If you are flying Upper Class, you can spend alot of time in the Virgin Club house before you fly or if you are in transit.

MORE SPECIFICATIONS
Aircraft Type : AIRBUS
Model : A340-300

I've never flown VS so can't comment but my girlfriend and parents have flown with them recently.

My girlfriend's experience with VS was poor. She usually flew BA when she came to see me from SFO and IAD but she booked at short notice so used some CO miles to fly VS out of EWR. She said she'd never fly them again out of choice. Restricted legroom, uncomfortable seats, awful food, took two hours to get meal service running on a red-eye EWR-LHR, unprofessional staff, stingy portion of drinks She did say the IFE was the saving grace on what otherwise would have been an awful flight.

My parents are also staunch BA flyers, usually J sometimes F. She flew with a friend (a staunch VS flyer!) from LHR-BOS-LHR in Upper Class last September and said the ground arrangements were great. Limo, check-in, Clubhouse all superb. She didn't like the seat as she usually gets aisle in BA Club World and felt too hemmed in the UCS, also said the service was pretty mediocre and didn't feel as professional as BA.

My father had to fly VS at last minute last year too and he said it was rather excellent. The limo and drive through check-in were great additions to what he'd get on BA, again lounge was superb and this time service on board was great. He didn't like the UCS though. Said it didn't suit his fat backside as well as Club World which is odd considering UCS is meant to be wider!

The J2000 wasn't fully flat.

I flew with VS, MCO-LGW-MCO. Service was impeccable, esp the nice pretty F/A's...food was warm, good beer/wine. Crew let me go to the upper deck after landing to shoto a few photo's, but Captain would not let me on the flight deck. I can't say anything negative about VS. We'll fly them over there again, over BA-though no qualms with BA, they're fine too.

In my experience I prefer BA but I've only flown Virgin once or twice. My Virgin flight was totaly unremarkable. Neither good nor bad.

I have an interesting view on VS. When my wife and I were dating, she was a flight attendent with KA at the time. She worked the NBO - LHR flight fairly often. We spent a week in London together, and then I had booked a flight to the U.S. for the both of us, and then a return for her back to London. On my flight from IAD to London it was a very comfortable flight even though I was in economy. You cannot complain to much about economy regardless. It was nice, and for the most part the FAs were attentive, if a bit snotty.

Then the return when we were traveling together, from London to JFK, was a completely diffrent story. This flight was on a clapped out B742 which was supposed to have been a B744. The aircraft was relatively dirty and had a fairly nasty oder through out. The FAs were far less attentive on this flight then they had been on the previous. One (my wife says she is Nigerian based on her accent) was downright rude and ended up yelling at several passengers (including 2 small children around 6 years of age). She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I spoke to the senior FA on board, and she told us flat that I was being too sensitive. Being too sensitive, when the lady she yelled at was in tears? My wife (fiancee at the time) being a FA herself was completely shocked at her rude behavior.

Dreading the return trip, I was able to upgrade her to Premium Economy. Even in that class, she told me that the flight back was less than enjoyable. She said that she felt slighted because of her background. She said that she was not given the same amount of attention then the rest of the folks in Permium Economy. She said that she was passed several times for beverages, and ended up going to the galley herself to get a bottle of water. For someone who has paid for a "premium" service, this isn't at all right.

I have heard plenty of good things about VS, and that is why I booked with them because I had never flown with them. With the exception of the first flight, I was very disappointed. The provided service was far less then the reputation of VS would indicate. My wife and I are not going to be booking with them again. I sent Mr. Branson a letter relating our experiances with VS to him. We didn't ask for anything in return, but were expecting some sort of reply out of corperate courtesy as we were paying customers. We recieved nothing.

Flew VS LHR-EWR in Feb 2005. Economy on G-VSUN a A340-300.
Nothing really good, noting really bad. I liked the amenity kit, and the colors of the cabin. Crew were ok/friendly but nothing more. Food good, but the servings could have been better. PTV's but mine was inop so I can't tell about their selection.

Honestly I didn't get to see what the VS "hype" is all about.

Flew to JFK with VS in October 2002. Impeccable aircraft, clean, punctual. Great food, pretty FA's.

Flew G-VAST outbound, and G-VMEG inbound (she was only 2 weeks old!)

Definitely would fly them again  Smile

Oh, you are asking about the airline!  Smile

I think they are great.
