Would You Want To Fly On A Russian Jet?

I had the opportunity to fly Aeroflot last week and experience a Russian jet in the Tu-154 for the first time in my life. It was actually a really nice flight. However I had been a little nervous about choosing to fly on a jet that requires 4 pilots.

So how about others. Would you fly on a Russian jet, or would you avoid it in favor of a more established western jet with a better safety record?

Planning to fly LHR-SVO-BKK in April 2007. First sector will be on the A320 and second sector will be on the IL-96.

I have no qualms about flying on a Russian jet. As part of the entry requirements for SkyTeam, Aeroflot had to pass an internationally accredited safety check, and their reputation is on par with Western carriers. As such, I have no hesitations about booking with them.

I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

i wouldn't hesitate, not even for a second. Just gimme one of those, anytime.

Always, when I visit a Mediterranean resort airport (like for instance AYT, HRG, SSH...), I always long to flight on one of the widebodies chartered from Russia, where passengers board and deplane from the lower floor via rectractable airstairs.  cool

= IL-86 ?!

In general no problem for me - it is just a matter of proper maintenance and use ...

i would want to fly more russian planes than western! they are obviously in one part of the world, and are been faded out of fleets, so i want to fly them before they are gone! especially the ilyushin 62, what a beauty of a plane.

I wouldn't outright seek it, but if I booked an itinerary where the most cost-effective options (cost minus frequent flyer mile gain) involved Russian jets I would gladly fly them. However, all but one of my air itineraries has been domestic, so I don't forsee flying on any Russian jets any time soon, and since they seem to be gradually disappearing, it is doubtful that I will ever fly one.

I would not say dissapearing, I'd say less carriers are choosing to run them.

I wouldn't mind flying a Russian jet especially if that airline is known to have a well maintained fleet.

I hated the toilet in the Tu154 so much because it was not good system. It just rinsed the thing, and had no real flushing let alone air powered sucking of sorts which meant that it smelled like a Honeybucket.

The only thing that really bothered me was how the evacuation slides on the Tu-154 are not fully automatic. The door must be opened, and then the slide needs to be unfolded from the closet and attached to the air pressure tank. That would take valuable time in an emergency and would not be easy to do for a passenger.
