10 Hour Layover In MEL. What To Do?

So I've got 10 hours to kill in MEL before traveling to ADL and I'm wondering what there is to do for that length in the airport.

Some details: Arriving into MEL at about 20.00 and leaving at 06.30. I'm on my own with luggage so don't think venturing into the city is an option but I'm open to suggestions.

I was thinking of purchasing one of those lounge access cards but don't even know if the lounges are open that late or till late? Was also thinking of booking into the Hilton at the airport but don't want to book anything in case the flight (LHR-HKG-...) is delayed.

Thanks for your help.

I did a similar stop once in MEL arriving on EK 404 from Singapore at 00.30 with an onward connection at 07.40 to ABX, however on arrival, the airport was shut as far as anything goes landside and this was the same for the departures side due to there being no more departures.

However on my next visit I got a room at a nearby FLAG motel for around AUD$45. So unless you want to go into the city I would just check into a room until your next departure.

Emirates. Keep Discovering.

International arrival in MEL at 20:00 means that you should clear formalities at the airport within an hour. I would then check into the Airport Hilton and then catch a cab to Southbank in the city, have dinner at Mecca's overlooking the river with a beautiful vista of the city. Then walk along Southbank to the Casino. Before midnight, head to Brunelli's in Carlton for coffee and cake and take in the local ambience of Melbourne's "little Italy". Alternatively visit Chapel Street in Prahran or Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. Head back to the airport Hilton for a few hours sleep before your early morning departure. Remember that it could be quite cold and possibly wet in Melbourne over the next few months. Also Melbourne is more lively at night later in the week i.e. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
