How Is ZW As An Airline And Employer?

Well, after a failed attempt at getting on as an F/A with EV this past Thursday, I'm looking at the possibility of working with ZW. One of their bases is here, and they have a hiring session for F/As this coming Tuesday.
Can anyone speak to how they are to work for and how they rate as far as regional carriers go?

I can make some comments but please bear in mind that I work in HQ in ATW, and don't get out to the line as much as I would like with the US deal in place.

1. You can expect to be on reserve for a little while, but you will probably get a line fairly quickly with the turnover around here. Its not a bad thing, its just a lot of midwestern people who were with the airline in the United days have left because they didn't want to commute.

2. For the most part, we have excellent flight crews. Most of our captains are great people to work with, and you will have fun on trips with these guys.

3. You will be the only flight attendant on any flight you work since we have no planes that require two flight attendants.

4. Most of the trips I have seen are three or four days, often times you will fly 6-7 legs on one day. That being said, if you work an early morning flight, you will get into your overnighting city early enough to get a decent night sleep provided delays aren't that bad. If you are the last flight of the night somewhere, you will get to sleep in before starting your next day.

5. Some legs are short legs, like PHL-ELM, some are very long, like PHL-MCI. Be prepared to work very hard if you have a longer flight, since you will likely be on your feet for two hours.

6. I believe the company will assign your initial base. Expect to be ORF based initially, since thats the junior base. Commuting is pretty easy if you live anywhere on the east coast. DCA and PHL are more senior bases, at least on the pilot side.

7. Company is a great company to work for, and they seem to treat the employees very well. Don't expect a large paycheck, but ZW is AFA represented, so thats a helper. Benefits are pretty decent, and the travel benefits are very generous in my opinion. If you want it go for it.

Well, I went in today for the session. There were nine other folks with me. We were told a good bit about the job, then we were given a couple of evaluations, a written one and an oral delivery one (the pre-flight safety brief we all know and love). Ater that, we stood by for a few minutes while they made up their minds. After 10 minutes, they posted a list of four names for those they wanted to talk to. Well, my name was on the list, along with a former Eastern F/A. They then interviewed us individually. Once that was done, we got into a LOT of paperwork. Fortunately I had all the info I needed, but my hand was worn out afterwords. Then we got fingerprinted, again verified that we haven't been bad around airplanes, then went home. All in all, a five hour process (whew).
So, unless something comes back on my background check that I don't know about, I should be starting my F/A training within a couple of months.  thumbsup
