I am departing in early July for Hungary and we are leaving from JFK to AMS on a KLM 772 and a 737 from AMS-BUD on Malev. I was wondering as neither of the listed airlines above have very detailed explanations of service on board their A/C. Experiences and comments would be graciously appreciated.
KL is pretty ok as long as there are no delays, since KL service recovery isn't the best. Seating is cramped (31"), however the seats on the B777 are good and all have AVOD. I flew KL m-class in B747. No PTV, and again the dreadful 31" pitch and had a middle seat between 2 big guys (and I'm also tall). The flight however -besides the lack of legroom/personal space- was EXCELLENT. THe cabin crew went out of their way to serve the passengers- I felt a "guest" in stead of "passenger". Many drinks were served, food was good (I must say that I'm like a garbage bin and eat almost anything! ) and FAs were around all the time, despite being a "redeye".
I have never flown Malev, but what I've heard, it's good.
The transfer in AMS should be easy. In case your JFK is late and you're about to miss your connection, you will be rebooked since there are many AMS-BUD flights with KL/MA. Enjoy your flight!

Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij (KLM to some folks) has some hot flight attendants especially in their uniform... mmmmmm. Amsterdam is a very easy airport to transfer in. I've enjoyed all my flights with KLM and Schiphol is just phenominal when it comes to See Buy Fly (Duty Free).
never flown Malev.
