Hi, I did try searching for this but couldn't find anything recent.

I'm flying MAN-AMS tomorrow on the 737 and I'm just curious as to what to expect. I'm flying in Economy. It says that on my return flight on Friday that I'll be getting a cold meal which I presume is a sandwhich but I'm just glad to be going.

Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Hi!

I flew KL 738 last year from LIS to AMS and back and I had an excelent experience. My flights were completely oposite in both ways, the LIS/AMS was at 6:30 in the morning, I got a nice warm cheese bread has a start and then a nice and healthy breakfast with iogurt, fruit salad and cake, all with coffee and orange juice. On the way back it was late at night so I got again a nice warm cheese bread and then a cold meal that was a nice muesli combo with some wildberries, also with complemantary non-alcoholic drinks. I enjoyed also to fly in the 738, a nice and powerfull airplane, and KL F/A's are excelent professionals!!! I think you'll like your ride...by the way what type of airplane you'll be flying?
regards

Hi Phil,

shame you didn't mention this before now as i work on KLM check-in at MAN! On-board service consists of a cold sandwich, usually either cheese or ham, and a drink. KL1072 is usually operated by a 738, but sometimes on sundays it can be operated by a 734 due to lighter loads.

Enjoy your ride, and i'm sure my colleagues will look after you!

Matt

KL service is basic. KL has no IFE on their shorthaul fleet. The F50/70/100 are known for their technical delays. Some of the B737-300/400s are very outdated. The "service" consists of a (miniature) cold sandwich (usually cheese) and something to drink. That's all. FA's are -in general- very friendly. Keep in mind that AMS is known for bad bagage handling so be prepared!

In my opinion after several rides with KLM on the MAN-AMS-MAN legs is that they offer quite a decent short haul product, especially compared with the other European carriers who have scrapped complementary on board food/drink altogether on short haul flights. They also have some of the friendliest F/A's of any airline.

With regards to the aircraft, the Fokker's and the B737-300s/400s are far from new, but they still look well maintained from the inside considering their age.

My short haul KLM reports:

KLM - Manchester-Schiphol - B734 - W/Pics (by Ryanair737 Jan 1 2006 in Trip Reports)

KLM Cityhopper F70 MAN-AMS W/Pics! (Long) (by Ryanair737 Aug 19 2004 in Trip Reports)

I'm sure you would have enjoyed your flight! Big grin

Thanks guys,

I just got back a few hours ago. We were on a 737-300 both ways which was nice as thats a new varient to add to the list  Smile. The flights bothways were excellent as was the cheese sandwhiches.

We didn't have any problems at AMS either with baggage ours were first off, and again likewise back at MAN.

Checking in at Manchester was easy too, I don't like E-Tickets (had problems in the past) but all I needed was my passport and that was it.

Check in coming back today was a bit insane since they have started working on a small section of departures 2 which makes the queueing system awful (especially midway through the line when two more randomly started lines try to join). The automated checkin computers are really cool too.

I am really amazed at Schipol, well Amsterdam in general I really didn't want to leave (especially since I only had 1 hours sleep). Still I'll be going back in October/November for about a month  Smile Smile Smile

I know people who have said the F100/70 used for the LBA-AMS is better than the MD-11 used from AMS- Lima

Strange but true

Pray that you dont get one of their older 737's! The interiors are very worn. Seat cushions are torn up, seats are falling apart!

I have flown AMS-GOT countless times with 734 and I must say that I have never had any problems with it. On 1 occasion we were delayed departing from GOT due to illness of one of the pilots but after about 30 minutes they had another pilot.

Have flown SAS lately to ARN and CPH and that has, so far, been a disaster!
I will only go for KLM from now on.

Aim for the sky!

When in doubt, flat out!

Quoting BA286 (Reply 9):

We were on a 733 both ways and although the galleys looked dated (not really an issue though now is it?) the cabin was in good condition considering the ages of the aircraft. I found it quite comfortable with good legroom for economy but I don't fly Sched that much.
