Ok so I got a little conondrum. I have always wanted to experience first class. I gotta go back to school in Alabama and will probably fly DEN-ATL. I gota two options to fly:

Frontier DEN-ATL A319 with PTV and I get free DirecTV with a coupon for about $165
OR
DL DEN-ATL on either MD80 or B757 (no PTV) but First class for about $330

Now is DL first class on a 757 worth the $150 more or should I stick with Frontier and their good service. Note I have never flown Froniter and flew DL once back in Spring Break. Will I get to use the DL Lounge in DEN, do they even have one?

I would choose Frontier. The DirecTV is great, the seats are leather, and the pitch and width is decent.

Never flown up front in a DL MD80 but the 757 isn't bad, but at 1/2 price give Frontier a chance.

the seats aren't leather, i'm afraid.

It's an entirely different kind of flying; all together.

Take Frontier and use the money in difference for your next flight.

Having recently flown SLC-DEN-SLC on both DL and F9, I'd go with Frontier. The DL operation in DEN is pretty sketchy at best. I'm pretty sure there's not a lounge there.

F9 on the other hand was stellar. They've become one of my favorite airlines, after only one roundtrip! So for my  twocents , go with F9.

Well you said you have always wanted to experience first class, so go with DL. You obviously can't experience anything close to first class on Frontier. Frontier service is nothing out of the ordinary, I have flown with them a few times, and was happy with the service, but it was nothing extraordinary.
Do first class on DL, you have to experience first class at least once in life, nothing beats the awesome service you get up there!

I'm a DL fan, but $$$ win in this case. I fly first class often and enjoy the food and booze, but a $150 is nothing to laugh at. I use to fly Frontier before they got the Airbus and I was always happy with them. Enjoy your flight!

I have flown quite a bit on both airlines and I would definitely recommend F9. DL first class is good, but clearly not worth the difference. DL does indeed have a Crown Room in Denver. I like DL for the most part, but I would fly F9 any day over DL (even if F9 was a little more). Just my 2 cents though.

So would I be able to use the corwn lounge in DEN....I know some airlines won't let you use the the lounge even if you fly First class.....for example my dad flew first class domestic with AA and he was unable to use the lounge in DFW because they only allow people who fly domestic first class in.

I am leaning more towards F9, this is my second year in college I am sure I will probably be able to fly first in the future....Im kinda sad DL dropped the 767 service from DEN, otherwise I would have taken them.

Thanks for the replies tho

Or anything else a college kid would spend money on. Whats this a Colorado kid going to the University of Alabama? Thought you had to have a southern drawl to get in?  biggrin

They do have a CRC in DEN (I was there today.) It is small but comfy. You won't be able to use it though with just a F ticket. You need a CRC card or a Platinum AMEX (not the platinum SkyMiles card.)

I have to agree here and I'm a huge Delta fan. The flight is usually about 2:45 in length and there is no meal or even light snack served in F on it. I would save your money and get a BizElite flight somewhere to Europe if you want to experience F/Biz on Delta. I have the "golden handcuffs" of Medallion status so I most likely would pick DL for me but Frontier is the way to go for you.

BTW...Go Gators! I sure hope we beat you all this year. Have some ribs at Dreamland for me.

I needed to step out of Colorado and out of the cacoon that is COS and was also looking for a change.

DeltaGator,
Your reply was just what I was lookin for....someone who had taken the flight. I thought itd be a little better, but truly F9 sounds better than DL first. Yeah I'll prolly save my money for something better...hopefully some long-haul International First class experience would be nice (And my future salary as an Electrical Engineer might help out).

As for the Gators......well how did you liek that game last year, and the fact that one of your player broke Tyron Prothro's (the guy behind our offense) leg really makes me hate those kids from the swamp. But since I am a huge college football fan, I might just agree that this year and prolly next you'll get us, but it wont be easy

No problem. If you've never flown First Class I would wait until you can do it overseas. Nobody flying domestically has anything I would go out of my way to pay for myself.

That Denver flight is weird because it is a stage long enough to fall under DL's meal schedule but for some reason they don't do it. Not a big deal since the burrito place under the CRC makes a decent meal which I took on the plane yesterday. Lefty's down by Gate 46 is ok as well.

Given the fact that domestic first class service on legacy carriers is ridiculous, I would vote for Frontier. Only time first class is REALLY worth it is on transatlantic/pacific flights....and NOT on domestic US carriers but instead on international carriers.

I would also go with Frontier. A-319 is a fine arcraft, and as stated, DirecTV is very nice. (save the money also!)

There is only one ansewr to this. Go with F9! I flew them back in october PHL-DEN-ABQ. Great service even on the 1 hour DEN-ABQ leg.

Well this thread is pointless now....I decided not to drive 70 miles north to DEN and just do COS-ATL-BHM for $174. It's coach but I still get PTV since its and ex-song plane between COS-ATL
