Hi guys,
I'm just looking for a bit of advice on flying from the UK to DXB next February. There will be 4 of us flying, we will be starting at GLA and it will be economy class.

On checking pricing for the journey ,Emirates direct from GLA-DXB-GLA works out at £455 each.
VS and BA LHR-DXB-LHR are both £288 so thats a significant saving even if we do have to fly GLA-LHR to connect.

What do you guys think? I think it would be worth flying via LHR and saving around £100 each. Also, the more flights the better for me!

One thing I would like to know is how does the IFE in economy on these 3 carriers compare on this route if anyone has any knowledge of that? Also, is it a A343 that VS use on this route? One thing I like about BT is that we could fly out on a 744 and back on the 777 as they have the 2 daily flights.

Any advice appreciated!
thanks

Virgin & Transfering Heathrow (From T1 to T3) are really not worth it. Emirates is a very good airline in Eco, and it takes you from Scotland direct.

Agreed - if you've got a nonstop available, take it!

Nothing but hassle to transfer, especially at LHR. Even more so if you'll be travelling on separate tickets.

What about if we travel GLA-LHR-DXB with BA, would that still be a lot of hassle? Any idea how long we'd have to be there to transfer?

Can you not fly down to LGW and take an EK flight from LGW? Less hassle than LHR. (And you can easyjet it to LGW...)

Well the IFE on EK is excellent when i flew SYD-AKL at beginning of the year. Do you know what type of A/C you will be flying on??

I think EK GLA - DXB is a 773 with 3-4-3 seating in eco

Have you thought of flying Royal Brunei? They are a great airline which fly daily DXB-LHR on 767's and have PTVs in economy with AVOD. Alternatively you could go on someone like KL or LH through their european hubs instead of London.

No, it is a 77W. Which is a 777-300ER

No, it is a 346.

thanks for the info guys. I have ended up booking with BA.
Between the 4 of us travelling, it saves £300 over EK direct from GLA and we are on a bit of a budget. I dont mind going through LHR as I dont get there that often.
Also, we get to travel on 4 different models of aircraft -

GLA-LHR 752
LHR-DXB 744

DXB-LHR 777
LHR=GLA A320

I'm quite happy with this as the only 747 i've been on was a 743 and i've never been on a 777 before. I also like flying on the 752
