I suppose LAX or JFK might be the most common in the U.S. also ATL might be one

I doubt folks refer to ORD as "yeah, I arrive at "ORD" around 4pm" Most folks would say "O'Hare" right? same goes for LaGuardia and Logan maybe.

I guess which airports are BAD ASS enough that everyone knows their code v/ just being referred to by the city they are in??

I guess it has a lot (if not everything) to do with how well the code reflects the airport name and/or city...

LAX. It's always in newspapers. You don't see LGA or MCO in there.

Smaller airport, but here in Sarasota, FL everyone refers to the airport as SRQ and, for that matter, the city. It does drive me crazy that Bay New 9 refers to TPA as TIA and MCO as OIA!

I would have to say it should be a near tie between JFK and LAX.

Quoting WN2CMH (Reply 2):
TPA as TIA and MCO as OIA!

folks always call GSO as PTI which I HATE!!!

Around here, folks do say RDU a lot rather than Raleigh-Durham. But I guess it can go both ways.

JFK, LAX, SFO, EWR, ORD, ATL, PDX, LHR. I have heard a lot of people say PDX and SFO who are not affiliated with aviation. Whenever I am flying, I always refer to the airports by code  Smile
