Hi

It turns out that I'm heading off to Brisbane to visit my family in October / November time.

I'm considering taking the SQ flight from MAN. (I live in Birmingham, so MAN is quite easy to get to.)

SQ do a decent price (about 850). One question I had is can you specify a seat when you book on the SQ website, as I don't think it specifically says, and I like to know that I have a window seat?  Wink I noticed it was a 772 with 3-3-3 config, but since I'll only be travelling with one other person, that's a bit of a shame.

I just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions. Is there anything worth making a trip to LHR for?

Thanks in advance - gary

Nope. I think SQ will do the job very well.

MH, perhaps, but I'm not sure if they offer a BNE service.

Yes they do, they have great connections from Europe to flights to BNE, MEL, PER, ADL, PER and SYD and AKL in NZ  Smile

It's a shame that MH do not fly from MAN anymore, but you could do a KLM/MH combo if you wanted to fly from BHX. You could fly BHX-AMS-KUL-BNE on KLM/MH!

I would reccomend flyin MH and flying to BNE via KUL. KUL is a wonderful airport and is no where as busy at HKG, SIN or BKK  Smile

I would reccomend to you flying from LHR to BNE via KUL on MH, you can book a two-seat block near the rear of the aircraft on both legs, on the 744. Having a two block seat means you will have loads of legroom near the window. I recently flew LHR-KUL is this seat! If you want more info just ask me  Smile It means you will sit in a 2-4-2 area compared to the usual 3-4-3 area  Smile

A recent trip report of mine of my LHR-KUL flight:

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies.

Yeah, I often find that traveling from BHX through a European hub makes sense. I'm not sure. There's lots of changes there and waiting around in Airports.

Interestingly, I didn't realise that 744's have 2-4-2 area. Do most airlines have this in economy?

Go SQ – you will enjoy it!

Join the SQ Krisflyer (the frequent flyer programme) first.

https://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/krisflyer/index.jsp

Then make the booking and request seat of your choice. This is usually honoured. You will also gets loads of Krisflyer miles on a round trip to Ozzie and great flexibility if you wish to change any part of your journey after the first sector has commenced - at no charge!

Tip – if you book direct on the SQ website go for the Multi city option and break the journey. You will invariably find the ticket is valid for one year. You can then make changes to the return journey as often as you like with no charge – makes it easy if you want to extend your stay.

You can study the SQ seats plans here:

http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_U...nt/company_info/siastory/fleet.jsp

Break the journey at Changi Airport and just enjoy and explore, for it is one of the truly great airports and it will amaze you.

You can even stay in excellent accommodation airside if in transit – I always do and have spent many a splendid 24 hours “in transit” – SQ keep the heavy bags during all this too! The budget rooms in both hotels in Terminal One and Two are fine and have showers just round the corner.

As long as you have a valid ticket and onward boarding card you can leave the transit area, take the bus or train and go into Singapore for a look, then return airside to explore more. It is so easy to do – I do it every trip to/from Ozzie.

Changi Airport has a great web site too:

Feel free to email me if you’d like any further practical advice.

You can watch the entire SQ safety video to get you in the mood!

What about EK? Then you can depart out of BHX and go to BNE via DXB and I think SIN
