NAN-LAX-ORD-BRU And Back: What Security To Expect?

Hi all...

I am currently based in the South Pacific and travelling with the family to Europe in the coming week, and then back mid-september. Flights are
NZ from NAN to LAX
AA from LAX to ORD
AA from ORD to BRU
and the same flights back (LAX-NAN on FJ on the way back).

As I understand the current security situation, cabin bags are okay as long as you don't pack liquids etc, which is fine. The strange thing though, is that US-bound flights from Belgium (only!) (BRU-ORD in our case) are still subject to this (IMHO) ridiculous "1 plastic bag only with only 1 newspaper, 1 book, 1 laptop but no other electronics etc."

I would like to understand
- why Belgium has this rule in place as the only country in the world (as far as I know and can see from the AA website) - Heathrow is easy compared to this!
- how strict BRU security is enforcing this
- what the chances are that this is going to change in the coming weeks.

I usually travel with quite a few valuable electronics such as a portable hard disk which contains my life, basically, and I am not planning to have that confiscated or put in my checked luggage. Same for my camera which I always have with me...

Any views? Thanks! Also, any comments on the Y-class service on any of these segments would be greatly appreciated!

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

This would be better off in the Civ Av section. I wish I had more advice I could give you but I just dont have any.
