ORD UA Questions

I'll be arriving at ORD at 0454 on 9/1 if the Anchorage flight is on time.

I'm sure I'll be arriving at Terminal 1 and I have to connect with United Express to CID at 0840 9/1.

So . . . . several questions:

1. Any place open at the hour for a decent cup of coffee? If not, Red Carpet? If not, what time should I expect to see things come to life?

2. Does United Express (to CID - Mesa) leave only from F gates?

3. Can I still get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 on foot without leaving the Secure Landside of the Terminal? This way I can avoid the "Chicago TSA Experience"  wink . Yes, I know there's a shuttle from somewhere near C9 to somewhere near E3, but after 6 hours flying from ANC, I want the walk and I have plenty of time.

4. Any ORD nutters want to meet a cranky old eskimo, I'd be proud to buy 'em a cup of morning coffee . . . or a martini if that's their poison at 0500  biggrin

You will be arriving in terminal 1. Most of the redeye flights from the west coast come in to Concourse B, but not all of course. Concourse B really picks up at about 5am with a good number of arrivals that turn around and are the first bank of departures to the east coast.

Yes there are restaurants that open up at 5am. The terminal will have a decent number of people in it. All the Red Carpet clubs at ORD open at 5am, so you can go there too.

Almost exclusively. CID is served by 50 seat RJs which almost all leave from terminal two, except for one gate in terminal 1 (B22).

Yes you can walk. If your flight gets in to concourse B it is actually shorter to walk directly to terminal two than to go all the way to C9. There is a small corridor off of the b-gates just past the red carpet club across from gate B5 if i remember correctly. There are some signs, but it is easy to miss. If you follow signs to terminal 2, it will take you through there and you can easily walk. It isn't that far. I highly recommend avoiding security at ORD at that hour, since it can be a bit crowded with tons of people getting ready for the morning bank of departures.

Excellent . . . Red Carpet CLub for me then.

They also get E170s and CRJ7s (both ExPlus) according to UAL.com . . . I will be on the first ride of the day, which will be an "F"-less CRJ200  cry  I think I'll survive the 50 minutes though.  laughing

Same place it used to be then - I just wanted to make sure it was still there. What with all the "security"  redflag  I wasn't sure.

Exactly my reason for asking . . .

I haven't flown thru ORD in a few years - prefer DEN out of ANC.

Thanks for the heads-up RoseFlyer!

Now, who is up for breakfast at ORD on 9/1?  biggrin

I'll be blowing back through there on 9/5, but only have 55 minutes to get from where ever the inbound CID flight lands (concourse F I guess) over to where ever the outbound ANC flight will depart . . . somewhere on B or C.

Next time - the beer's on me.  biggrin

I would even though I live 80 miles away with the exception that there is no way that I'll be up at that early hour and then be able to function at work.

I actually think there is more than one UX gate at B. I know B26 is, but I am not certain.

There is no B26. The B gates end at B22. B22 has two doors. One typically serves an E170 and the other an ERJ.

ExPlus CR7s and E170s now mostly leave from concourse C gates at the end C1-C7. The 50 seat RJs leave almost exclusively from terminal 2.

The ExPlus flights also use B21 regularly. I've caught the 9AM ORD-MSP many times from that gate.

Sorry, I bet I was thinking of DEN. It does not make sense though, I am in ORD once a week.
