Looking to take my family to Dubai next Feb for a week to escape the perpetual cold and greyness of the U.K in Feb!!

I don't want to get bogged down in the whole "x airline is better than y airline" but does anyone have a preferences on direct services ex LHR or LGW to DXB??

Thanks!!

ok... so the airlines that fly from LHR to DXB are:
KLM, Virgin, BA, EK, Czech Airline, Qatar, Air France, Austrian, Lufthansa.
but the only airlines with non-stop serive are BA, Virgin, and Emirates... pretty much as you said.

so if you want to go straght there with out any stops and if you are flying economy I would say:
Virgin: I have heard that the seats aren't as nice, but not terrible

BA would be an option.

Ek seems pretty nice

BA and Virgins price is right around 240 Pounds round trip and EK is 332 Pounds...

heres some seat info:

  • EK: between 33 and 34" pitch. 17' width. ICE video system with over 500 channels and video games.
  • BA: 31 Pitch. 17.5 width. non AVOD IFE.
  • Virgin:32 Pitch. 17.5 Width. depends on aircraft as to whether or not

If you do end up taking BA would take BA's morning or evening flight to DXB as that way you will get the 747 or 777... if you take the other day flights then it will be on the 767, which doesn't have personal TV's  Sad and coming back take one of the frist two flights as the rest of the day are only the 767.

there you go... I didn't tell you what one is better I just showed ou the facts... now its up to you!

I would check ot the Trip report section... it will have reports on these different airlines.

Might be by then though, a BA expert will have to put me right here.

I have heard this from numerous people and am leaning towards them, although a little dearer the IFE is supposed to be the nuts, and you get a skyphone on your seat, even in Y!!!

The easiest and fastest way to the beach hotels is actually Etihad to Abu Dhabi which will not only give you a cheaper fare I expect but a direct bus to DXB and you will sail through the airport. By the time you have got through DXB at a peak time it could be 2 hours !! Then a long trip to the beach hotels. Make it easy for yourselg and go to Abu Dhabi (ps the hotels are cheaper as well!)

The longhaul 767 fleet is fully equipped with PTVs and has been for some time.

Personally, i'd choose VS, more frequent miles for me. Plus, you get to fly on an A340-600

However, BA are upgrading their IFE, meaning a new AVOD system, similar to VS and of course, superior service. Also, you can get on a 747 or 777.

EK are supposed to again, be excelent,. But appear dearer.

However, you may also like to try another option, such as

Royal Brunei ( BI ).

They have upgraded the 767's to a new AVOD system, and service is supposed to be good, but the food is apparently a little iffish in Y (Thats what Ive heard, dont kill me if its not...)

So its up to you.

Seeing as its a faimly, perhaps you should look at the most family friendly option.

Kev

Emirates, the only disappointing thing about Emirates is they don't fly everywhere I need to go. I've racked up almost 300,000 miles with them in the last 12 months.

I had the same dilema. I'm also going to Dubai in Feb, starting from GLA. Emirates are the only airline doing direct flights from GLA-DXB but it was much cheaper doing GLA-LHR-DXB with BA and the times suit me so thats what i've booked. Looking forward to flying 747 there and 777 back.

If I had the choice, I'd fly Royal Brunei...

... nice new interiors, plus it would definitely be a "different" experience.

I wonder what their prices are like...

Oh yes, and I've heard great things about the Etihad Abu Dhabi - Dubai connecting bus service if that interests you...
