Hi

I was speaking to a professional actress who has been in quite a few commercials here in the UK, and asked her whether airline "crew" in adverts for Emirates, BA etc. were actually cabin crew in real life....the answer was no, they were simply actors dressed up in uniform.

I was quite surprised, but perhaps I shouldn't have been....after all, everyone on TV always looks unreasonably good-looking...

Does anyone know whether the same holds outside the UK?

We use real pilots and real cabin crew for our advertising.

What does it depend on?

Back when the two 747's collided at Tenerife, the Captain of the KLM plane was featured in newspaper and magazine ads mentioning hoe experienced he is, and that KLM is an experienced airline or something like that. These ads were running when the accident happened. Quite embarrassing for KLM. In fact after the crash KLM was rushing around looking for him to send him to the scene of the accident on behalf of KLM. He was one of, if not the most, experienced pilot they had.

Depends on the company, and what they are looking for. I know here at AA they have used both actors and actual employees.. I can remember one commercial where the pilot that was used in the cockpit was someone I had actually flown with on many occasions, but the flight attendant was an actress.. So guess it is up to the company or the director...

Yes, and sometimes the choices are a bit curious.  Big grin

In SQ, they use actual crew for their adverts/marketing brochures. It's too costly to hire actors/models. They pay crew daily allowances (peanuts) for each day of filming/photo shoot.

I noticed that when I flewQF (6 times in July), they had a program about their new uniforms. Were those actors or real f/as and CSAs?
