The fuselage sections for the first Boeing [NYSE: BA] 777-200ER for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are joined together to form an airplane body at a factory in Everett, Wash. (USA). The jetliner, scheduled for delivery to KLM in October, will be the first to incorporate the first fully certified Class 3 Jeppesen Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), using hardware from Astronautics Corp. The EFB puts all the information needed to fly the airplane – manuals, weight-and-balance information and more – at the pilot's fingertips in digital form.

Yes.... I will be writing a trip report.... I've always written a trip report ever since my trip to BWI in 2000. Although since my comp has been reformatted, i've lost all of my typed trip reports. grr... including the one from last year's trip to India..

David: yes.... gotta love free translators... I really want to learn dutch though as a few friends of mijn want to move to Amsterdam in about 10 yrs... its a long story and it had to do w/ the war in Iraq.

In my opinion Dutch is pretty easy to learn. I picked it up more or less in my ten months living in Friesland. Granted, I make grammar mistakes now and then, but I read it and speak quite well.

A bit OT... As long as I understand what you mean, it's fine! Don't worry about grammar errors, unless you're native Dutch. In that case I'm very demanding... And btw, I'm also very much waiting for the 1st 772.

WOW, this thread really amazes me. I really should watch my Dutch language in the States!
I spent the better part of my life trying to master the English language, only to find out in this thread that you guys understand Dutch as well!!!

The 777 will look extremely well in KLM colours. The following cities are to receive 777 service according to the current version of the KLM downloadable timetable:
CPT [3x weekly from 16 Nov, daily from 01 Jan]
DEL [daily from 28 Mar]
GRU [5x weekly from 03 May]
JFK [daily from 29 Dec]
NBO [daily from 26 Dec to 27 Mar]
NRT [daily from 01 Mar]
SFO [3x weekly from 29 Mar]
YYZ [5x weekly from 03 Nov, daily from 17 Nov until 28 Dec]
All services will be non-stop.

Don't most of those cities, if not all are being operated using 747s now? Why switch to a 777?

Please keep in mind that most of these routes were flown with 747 Combi aircraft:
743 Combi: 44/247 + 7 pallets
744 Combi: 44/239 + 7 pallets
777: 35/292

KLM has ordered the 777 [and 3 744ERF's] to replace the 13 aging 743 aircraft [10 of which were Combi]. The oldest was delivered in 1975!
So on most routes the 777 will increase seating capacity. The loss of cargo capacity will be recovered through additional full cargo flights.

It should also be noted that CPT is currently served daily with a 744, but as an extension of the JNB service, so that is a one-stop service. When the 777 is up to speed, KLM will have two dailies to S-Africa: one daily 744 to JNB, and one daily 777 to CPT.
