I have heard that some people encountered many problems with GH
How was your experience flying Ghana Airways? |

Username: Edina Posted 2003-08-21 20:58:57 and read 1233 times.I have deadheaded on GH on 2 occasions, both fairly short distances, once on their DC9 & once on a DC10. The aircraft interiors were a little dated but spotlessly clean & well maintained. Crews were genuinely friendly & provided a whole lot more service than you would receive on an equivalent 2 hour flight in the US. As a country Ghana isn't rich, but it's people are probably the nicest you will find in Africa.....well educated, happy, respectful & wise.
Before BA moved the LGW-ACC service to LHR it was the one destination LGW based crews never complained about. Now we're just stuck with constant US flights & the occasional caribbean run. |
Topic: RE: Flown On Ghana Airways? Username: Worldperks Posted 2003-08-21 21:17:44 and read 1209 times.Having put in 985,000 miles on Northwest in the last five years, I don't know about their being that bad.
We have a fair-sized Ghanaian community here in Maryland. No doubt that's why GH comes here in the first place. I do know that many of my Ghanaian students fly GH from BWI because of educational subsidies and personal reasons. And nothing else goes straight through to Accra.
On the other hand, some of my fellow faculty, those of Ghanaian extraction, fly BA or KL to Accra when they actually have a choice -- complaining about surly flight attendants and poor reliability on GH.

Username: Behramjee Posted 2003-08-21 21:28:52 and read 1190 times.the problem with Ghana Airways is the same problem that has cursed so many African carriers such as Nigerian and Air Afrique...bad management and lack of knowledge not to mention corruption within the airline and negligence.
Just look at how in 3 years KENYA and ETHIOPIAN have transformed their image into world class airlines...if you dont believe me check out these links :

Right now BRITISH MIDLAND is actively taking some sort of control over GHANA by giving it a single A 332 for use to LHR and JFK as well as providing maintainence and management help.
What would really suit the airline is to completely reinvent itself starting with replacing its entire ageing fleet of DC 10s and B 732s and whatever else they have.
DC 10s should be replaced by B 763ERs and old 732s by B 737-700NGs. If its Airbus then the A 319 and A 332 combo is the best option in my view as in anycase BMI is making them head that way.
Also Accra airport needs a huge upgrading makeover.
By the way I have flown NW ORD-DTW and ORD-YYZ and DTW-YYZ and I really enjoyed their coach class on A 319s and A 320s. |
