Most of you are aware of the trials at the new Pearson airport Terminal New.
For those that are not, below are two emails describing the trials and an email and phone number in case you have not registered.
We would like to thank all of you who have registered to be volunteers for your interest, and we offer this e-mail as an update and to answer some of the questions we have received. We are now in a position to confirm that trials can begin in September. This timing is in sequence with the building activation and airline relocation schedules. Trials are expected to continue through September to November, and we will most likely schedule weekends.
We are planning on using volunteers for many different trial scenarios. Some of these include:
Way finding in Terminal
Check In Process
Pre-Board Security Screening
Gate & Boarding Process
4 Advanced Trials simulating opening day operations
Access for Passengers with Disabilities & Airport Customer Assistance Program (ACAP)
Recently, there have been many questions from the volunteers. Here are some answers:
How will the Trials be organized?
You will be given a map to a location at the airport where you will be briefed and given a safety orientation before each trial. Everyone will also receive a "script card" giving them a basic idea of the trial and specific information regarding the role they will play. There will also be a questionnaire on the back side of the script allowing volunteers to make notes about their experience, which will be valuable to help ensure that Toronto's new terminal maintains a high standard of customer service.
Are children allowed to participate?
Yes, children of all ages are more than welcome to attend. However, some trials may involve extended periods of standing, so you may want to revisit the idea of bringing small children. We are trying to ensure that our trials are as realistic as possible, and that would involve people of all ages and traveling experience. Please remember children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Will we receive payment for our time?
The trials program has been set up on a volunteer basis, and unfortunately there will not be any remuneration involved. The GTAA will however be providing refreshments, and lunch / dinner should the trials run through those meal times.
How can I be reached during a trial?
The phone number to the GTAA's Command Centre for Trials is 416-776-4365. All volunteers can be contacted through this number in the event of an emergency. Personal cell phones will also work in the building during trials.
Can the hours be used for High School Volunteer credits?
Yes, as long as the school in question is fine with this, we will be more than happy to sign off the hours on the students form. Please see one of the trial leaders if this applies to you.
Will there be any charges for Parking?
Under no circumstances will your experience cost you anything. There will be no charge for parking or for refreshments.
Are we allowed to take pictures?
Photos for your own private use are being allowed during the trials and simulations, however we do ask that you refrain from taking pictures of any art installations that you might see.
We will be contacting you at a later date with a specific schedule for trials. In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please address them to firstname.lastname@example.org or you can call the GTAA's Facility Activation team at 416-776-4365. Once again we appreciate your offer to assist us in our new Terminal 1 Operational trial program. Your assistance is critical to our success.
Today, Aug 27
We are pleased to announce that the GTAA Trials and Simulations program is progressing quickly, and we are preparing for our first large scale trial. But we can't do it without your help! On Saturday September 13th 2003 the GTAA will conduct a trial of the check-in process in the new terminal building. We are currently looking for approximately 500 volunteers to simulate passenger movements in the check-in area of the new Terminal.
We will be accepting the first 500 replies, and will send out a confirmation at least 1 week before the trial, explaining the details, and the location where we will be conducting a safety briefing. If you are available to participate in this trial on Saturday September 13th 2003 between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, please respond to email@example.com indicating your availability, and the total number of people that you will be bringing, including yourself. Please do not reply to this e-mail. Please send a new email to the above address.
In order to trial the check-in process effectively we require a wide range of participants, from children to experienced travelers, as well as persons with disabilities. If you do not receive a response from the GTAA regarding your participation in this trial, don't worry, we will be conducting more trials in early October, November, and December.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided, as well as free parking. Come be the first members of the public to see our new terminal.
The GTAA thanks you for your help, and we look forward to hearing from you soon. Remember, we will be cutting it off at 500 volunteers, so be sure to respond quickly.
