I have decided to choose Air China to fly to mainland China. I doubt that whether Air China has good inflight service and reliable. I would like to hear your opinion of Air China please? Thank you!

CA is not the worst! I've travelled both shorthaul (BAe146) and longhaul (A340) and the inflight service on both flights was ok with friendly crew!

I have flown multiple trips with CA from SFO to Beijing/Shanghai. The service is not the best in the world but they get you to your destination. I usually fly business class (top deck on the 747-400). The 747-400 combi business section do not have private video screens. I also do not like the seats. If the passenger in front of you reclines their seat, you can literally give them a shave and a hair cut because they are in your lap.

I flew LHR-PEK with Air China in Cattle CLass last year. I have to say, I was very impressed. The legroom was excellent 33/34inches, the seats were comfortable, but lacked a PTV. Also, the audio system used the old tube style headphone.

The food was also very good, especially on the outbound sector- I would go so far as saying the best I have ever had in economy class.

The staff, however, were rude but extremely efficient. They managed to sevre the whole economy section of a Combi in a matter of minutes.

I would say that Air China are not the best, but are far from the worst.

To FlyboyOz,

First of all, I thank you for choosing to fly with Air China for your incoming trip to China.

As I'm not quite sure that where will you start your trip with Air China? So, I think I'd better talk about both Melbourne-China & Sydney-China services.

For Melbourne-China service, I think your outgoing flight will look like the following:

MEL-SYD-CAN or PVG-PEK

The only good thing I could think about this one (I mean apart from cabin crew, catering, IFE & so on) is that you could get more than 9100 frequent flyer points if you're a member of Air China Club.

(Also, I particularly like to go through Melbourne rather than Sydney, because at least as I'm based in Adelaide, I don't have to drop on a bus etc in Melbourne, the only thing to do is to walk to the international terminal lol)

However, the only problem with this outgoing flight is that the departure time is rarely early, so if you're a night-person, I reckon you'd better to avoid this flight as I sometimes miss other Qantas domestic flights in early morning... hehe

For more information regarding on Air China's Melbourne-China service, please feel free to contact Air China Melbourne Office.

For Sydney-China service, your outgoing flight should look like the following:

SYD-CAN or PVG-PEK

With this service, you will probably find that the departure time is quite okay to most people, not too early and not too late anyway. Also, as Air China continues to receive further on-request-bookings for flights already booked out, they have recently transfered some B744s to operate the service rather than those B772s, but you have to be very lucky due to most of their Australian services are still being operated by B772s. You could only see Air China B744s coming into Sydney a few times a month I guess.

(Note to Legacyins: Air China is in progress to upgrade the business class of all B744s and there are some aircrafts have already been installed with one of world's 'best' sleepers, PTVs [not sure whether is on-demand-type or not] & so on.)

For more information regarding on Air China's Sydney-China service, please feel free to contact Air China Sydney Office.

Now, let's briefly talk about the service standard of Air China...

As a frequent flyer member with Air China and of course other carriers in Asia-Pacific, I would say that Air China is on its way to catch up with other world's leading carriers in terms of customer service (including cabin service, ground service & FFP service) and public relations.

Here is my mark list for Air China (based on the experience of all flights I have been flown with the carrier):

International Flights:

Cabin Service: 80 out of 100
Ground Service: 75 out of 100
Catering: 85 out of 100
IFE: 65 out of 100
Inflight Reading Materials: 75 out of 100
Lounges: 85 out of 100 (A great VIP lounge owned by Air China @ Beijing Capital International Airport, but it's only for First/Business Class passengers and probably Gold/Sliver members of Air China Club)
Communication Skills: 80 out of 100
Pilot Controling Skills: 90 out of 100
Inflight Comfort: 65 out of 100 (for economy class travel); 75 out of 100 (for business/first class travel)

Domestic Flights:

Cabin Service: 75 out of 100
Ground Service: 65 out of 100
Catering: 80 out of 100
IFE: 70 out of 100
Inflight Reading Materials: 75 out of 100
Lounges: 80 out of 100 (A great VIP lounge owned by Air China @ Beijing Capital International Airport, but it's only for First/Business Class passengers and probably Gold/Sliver members of Air China Club)
Communication Skills: 70 out of 100
Pilot Controling Skills: 85 out of 100
Inflight Comfort: 70 out of 100 (for economy class travel); 75 out of 100 (for business/first class travel)

Hopefully, this may give you some ideas of what you will be expecting... BTW, if you are going to China at first week of OCT, please don't be surprised that most flights could be retimed, delayed and so on, because all Chinese people are having a-week-long vacation, thus you will see people going away all the time... lol

Regards.
