So in talking with some friends I've become very curious on the costs of chartering a whole plane. Does anyone have an estimate (obviously gonna be very vague) of how much it costs to charter a whole plane? I really haven't got any ideas of how much so I'm looking for a general area.

Depends on the type, its crew/fuel requirements, and the dynamics of its operation...

chartering a 6 seat private jet or a 100 seat Concorde would have been rather different experiences  Big grin

If you want to see how much it would cost for short, mid, and long range craft, just go to http://www.airelite.com/reserve/reserve.htm and you can see the amount for the different types of ships they use. Of course this is one and only one way to find info on this...but its a good first try.

I do have to warn you though...it will be expensive. I just plotted a trip at the end of the month round trip from TOL TPA and their light jet(Lear 31a) cost a mere $21,000. Not in my budget Laugh out loud

Obviously, it depends on size of the aircraft, how far you want to go, does the airline have a station at either end (or will they be paying for ground handling), and when the charter is.

A general rule of thumb is if you are willing to fly in the middle of the night when the airline is not offering flights, the price will be less.

From VCV to GRK (1161 miles) I would often see prices in the $27,000 range for a 137 seat WN 737-700. That works out to about $200 a seat, or a little less than 18 cents per seat mile. I would see similar pricing (on a per seat basis) from Miami Air and North American for 727-200s and 757s.

When I was a charter pilot or gulfstream was about $5000 per flight hour hour. If you can afford that can we be friends?

I had the pleasure of riding in a G5 charter on a company freebie. I was informed that the hourly rate was 11,000.00 USD/hour + airport fees.

The bottom line when it comes to charter ops. is the size of the equipment and how long the trip will be. Open the yellow pages and give a charter outfit a call.

We used to get from $900 to $1200 per hr wet for the 23 (medical evac/cargo) and $1600 to $2100 pr hr for the 55 (9 pax) landing fees, per diem costs, etc.. And the amount of time the client needed the A/C and crew, as well as the amount of bookings we got from the customer made a difference. That was 10 years ago. Now I have no idea. In the old days we flew James Brown on a regular basis, and his rate was much better than a bunch of drunks who wanted to go up to Vegas for a six hour turn around.

I asked a charter company, just for the heck of it, how much it would cost to operate a B747-400 from Auckland to Paris via the USA and they said it would be approx. $1.5 million.

My boss asked me to check for a CMF-AGP in the 6 seater King Air 300 of Hex'Air, they quoted me 10,600 euro for the day (3.5 hour flight and return).

Needless to say, my boss found it way too expensive. Too bad, i would have loved the free jumpseat ride in the right seat (King Air are certified monopilot_

A recent one-way trip at my former company BED-SFO in a hawker was about $40,000. I am sure the return, SBA-TEB in a Gulfstream was much more!!

It's like Commodore Vanderbilt quipped about the price of a yacht...if you have to ask, you can't afford it....
