Anyone here from United know when the 747-400 will be back on the Chicago - Los Angeles route? High chances are I will be going to Cali for spring break, and the last time I flew the 400 was a year and a half ago coming back from Hawaii. I can standby on any flight (employee) and would like to get a 747 again. Plenty of 777s on the route if that doesn't work tho.

Finally got a digital camera for Xmas, will try to get some pictures of the new livery at O'Hare or LAX if I see it. Employees I've talked to have said it looks fabulous in person, so much better that the battleship grey and navy blue scheme. My mom's worked for United for 34 years and said this is by far the nicest one she's seen.

According to the United timetable, UA flt.125 is operated as a 747 between March 27th and October 30th. The flight departs ORD at about 5:00 pm and arrives in LAX at about 7:20 pm local time.
Enjoy your trip!

That's 3 weeks too late for my spring break...sunnuva, lol.

Oh well, guess I'll have to "settle" for a 777, ha ha.

If you can pass travel, then suck it up and go through DEN. Fly the 777 ORD-DEN and the 747 DEN-LAX.

Have fun.

For curiosity sake, I would assume the 747 on this route is internationally configured?

If so is business class available on the upper deck on this route?

How about First - don't UA have a suite like AA does?

I have never flown with UA due to my living in Europe and flying BA alot and hence AA when I'm in the states, however I am tempted to try UA as a comparison and this may be a good opportunity.

Furthermore do you know of any other routes in the US which fly domestically with an Internationally configured aircraft?

I believe all of UA's 744's are internationality configured, i.e. first, business, economy. Other than the seats (suites in first, reclining seats in business), there is little difference between UA's domestic first and business product within the US. It also seems that there often more UA employees in first on these planes than revenue passengers....

AA's 777 often fly in three class configuration within the US, however often they don't sell a C class product, but instead put their elite level frequent flyers into the business cabin, with a coach service product (i.e. no free booze, limited, non-existent, or buy it on board meal service, etc.).

CO's 777 first in the US is their business first cabin, pretty nice, but still a domestic first class product ($7.50 bottles of wine being served, no champagne except on transcons, etc.). Since most domestic first customers are frequent flyers upgrading, often for free, the service on all carriers reflects this fact (read = no more beef tenderloin carved at your seat side, with fancy wines and champagne, them days is done..).

Hey N777UA:

According to United Easy Schedule the 747-400 will be flying these flights:

LAX-ORD

UA118 (2:00 p.m.-7:55 p.m.) April 4-October 30 (through May 3 arrival time is 7:52 p.m.)

UA108 (9:00 a.m.-2:55 p.m.) March 28-April 3. One week only; is this spring break time? On a side note, UA153 ORD-SFO (4:55 p.m.-7:27 p.m.) is showing the 744 only on April 3.

ORD-LAX

UA125 (5:00/5:05 p.m.-7:05/7:23 p.m.) Various departure/arrival times, but shows basically through the end of October as well.

Ride the big lady while you can!
