I know AA is codeshare with QF, but why don't they fly a 773er to SYD from LAX of SFO? They do so much business. Where else does AA fly their own planes from to the Pacific?

AA operates flights to the Pacific (not Hawaii) from DFW, SJC, LAX, and I think ORD.
....pause while cvervais checks aa.com.....
Yup, they fly ORD-AA), Japan">NRT.
I'll be on the SJC-AA), Japan">NRT flight next week.

Syncmaster is correct, it makes no sense for AA to send a 773 down under. To be frank, I'm glad they don't! QF is much nicer, in my humble opinion! Mind you, I think the time might be coming for QF to send another service from LAX to SYD. They're always hard to get on whenever I book, and are always chock-a-block.

Why would AA want to compete with its Oneworld partner??? QF and AA have been joined at the hip for years now and AA making 1 token daily flight from LAX versus QF's 3 dailies to Sydney, daily to Melbourne, 3 x a week to Brisbane and 3 x a week to Auckland isn't much of a comparison.
AA flies to the following destinations over the Pacific;
Trans-Pacific
Chicago - Tokyo (B777)
Dallas/Fort Worth - Tokyo (2xB777)
Los Angeles - Tokyo (xB777)
New York City-JFK - Tokyo (xB777)
San Jose - Tokyo (B777)

I was about to correct you on the 2x daily DFW-AA), Japan">NRT flights, but then I checked my timetable and noticed that AA is offering 2 daily frequencies DFW-AA), Japan">NRT. Thanks for giving me the heads-up!

With HA starting services downunder, AA has another AAdvantage partner on the SYD route. I wonder if AA will codeshare on Hawaiian flights... I wonder if QF will have a cardiac if AA and HA codeshare?
HA 21 leaves HNL at 1.30pm - shouldn't that be a viable time for connections from other US cities?

Comparing a QF 747 and AA 777 on a LAX-SYD flight depends on the class you are flying in. Cattle car? MRTC puts QF's offering to shame - no contest. Business? If QF has the new sleeper seats then they win, otherwise it's close. First - the Flagship Suite arrangements beat QF, especially if you have a window seat. The nose of a 747 is rather special, but the FS is fantastic. Cabin crew? A flip of the coin for both - sometimes you get lucky.

Qantas over July/ August on Fridays and Sundays will be operating 4 x 744 services a day between SYD and LAX.
