This A/C had an aborted T/O here at AMS on july 6th and blew 8 tires.

Just witnessed the T/O from RWY 24, when what must have been near or at V1, louds bangs were heard and flames came from engine 1.

Then immediately of course full thrust reverse and very hard breaking with lots of smoke coming frome the gear.

This time no tires blew and the A/c taxied back to the cargo ramp.

Your comments please!!

I guess it must be a difficult problem to fix?!
Surely the problems from the last time should be resolved by now!?

Who did the maitenance on this L1011?

Is KLM Engineering capable for maintaining Rolls-Royce RB211-524B engines? Or Air Luxor's tech crew came down to fix that.

hi guys,

sorry, don´t know any answers to the questions above.

Quite noticeable was that there were literaly HUNDREDS of people watching from very close (the 06-24 spotting area, on a saturday, holiday, and sunny skies...) so there must have been someone taking pics to be posted here!

Regardless of who fixed the plane, its future is not looking that good right now.  Insane

The Airport management team will probably forbid them from leaving.

This is beyond rediculous at this point. I guess there isn't any other way of 'testing' the work they've done other than trying to take off again?

Does anyone knwo what the INITIAL problem was? Is this related?

For a lover of the L-1011, I tell you, this is scary stuff. Can you imagine being a passenger of Air Luxor, and finding yourself on the first return-to-flight flight?

The Tristar was heading for POS (Port of Spain).

Saturday is indeed top day for spotters. I've been at 06-24 in the early morning hours around 6:00AM, so again I missed the sensation!

I did found a picture from this afternoon:
http://www.ehvbspotter.nl/CSW/Wallpapers/Amsterdam/effe/IMG_3320%20(Large).jpg from http://www.ehvbspotter.nl. More will probably follow in the next days.

Kind regards,

I saw it too! It happened right in front of my eyes. The Tristar caught my attention already when I saw it was parked at the Romeo platform (the cargo ramp across the spotters area at 06-24) when I left the staff car park for the busstop. Half an hour later I was standing at B18, which is very close to the runway, waiting for a DBR 752. I was leaning against a fence to watch the departing a/c when this Tristar taxied for a take off on 24 right in front of my nose. I saw the flames coming out from engine #1 when I was facing the back of the a/c on the runway. It aborted the landing and it seemed ages before the Tristar stopped moving. Later on I saw her being towed back to her parking stand where the Tristar departed from. It was still there when I arrived at the staff car park so I had a look but didn't see any damage.
She was parked along the fence so if anyone of you wants to see it...

The Tristar was probably leaving empty or with cargo only. I'm pretty sure there were no pax. on board since it left from the cargo ramp where sometimes a/c are only parked. Imagine how terrified they would have been.

Was she still on the runway or was she standing in the field?
Didn't hear anything today. It was a madhouse at AMS. Handled 6 a/c in 7.5 hours.

Regards,
Sander

For me it sounds like a major problem in the engine gas path with the compressor stalling big time. I´d like to do a boroscope of the compressor, I´ll bet I´ll find something. Doing some desktop T/S I think this engine is a goner, probably missing some compressor blades by now. I suspect the airline didn´t want to change the engine ($$$$) and told the mechanic just to change some components like a VSV or VBV actuator. I´ll bet once they got a new engine on, the plane will be OK.

Is KLM Engineering capable for maintaining Rolls-Royce RB211-524B engines?

They have done the mx for Virgin Atlantic on their 742s, so they have plenty of experience. I think some of the European 742s went there too at one stage.

Hi guys!

It's interesting to see all those news regarding this L1011 from Air Luxor, can you imagine that here in Portugal noone gave that news, even when the Tristar aborted T/O first time with all those blown tires..... I think the Air Luxor guys are quite filtering the news here!
For me Air Luxor is not a surprise, I think the guys are operating "over the barber pole" and I hope I'm wrong but one day there will be a tragedy, it's been quite a chain of tech events since the beggining of the year and I don't know what's going on. One thing I'm sure, I'll never fly Air Luxor, even if they pay me for that!!!!
regards

The CS-TMP also had a RTO in Curacao, only a few days after the CS-TMR performed her first show here in AMS.

Get a new erngine and install it. It shouldn´t take more than 15 hours. The old one goes to the shop and get overhauled. The only problem is that it costs a few $$$$$, which the airline probably doesn´t have.

Thanks KEESJE.....
I was trying to say that with the link to KLM Engineering.....guess no one read it!
KLM works on a wide variety of aircraft, but the L1011 is not one of them.

The tristar was headed for POS? Must be a replacement for the BWIA A340 in Toulouse on repairs right now. A World Md-11 is covering currently for the A340.

Dear All
As far as i know, Air Luxor has sell those aircrafts last December, and they now have Airbus A 330 and A 320's on the fleet. About there Maintance i remember that they have anounced recently the renovation of there maintenance contract with Sabena Technics and Sorgerma.
Oh! By the way i am aware that they are the number one private portuguese airline
Best Regards

CS-TMP is still in CUR (15-08-04) with BonairExel's ATR PJ-XLM who also had an engine fire upon landing (on base-leg) parked next to it. The ATR had an evac. as there was smoke in the cabin. (this happened friday 13 aug.) The same day DCA had a nose landing gear unlock warning light, and also declared an emergency. A true friday the 13th for aviation that day.
BonairExel's engine fire was the third engine fire in less then a year of operating. 2 times on XLM and once on XLL (one on every destination CUR, BON and AUA, ironic..).
Questions on BonairExels maitanance come to mind.

to Captspiff ; just like Air Aruba and all of Aruba airlines that cannot get of the ground (Royal Aruban Airways, Avia Air III, Aruba International Airlines and Air Aruba II). tristu (very sad)
