There was a Yugoslav airline before the civil war called Aviogenex which operated charters for the tour operator Yugotours, to bring tourists from Northern Europe to Yugoslavia back in the late 1980's.

Is this airline still operating and whats happened to there aircraft.

They still have website but heard nothing about them in years.

Back in 1989 I went on holiday with my parents to Yugoslavia, we flew with JAT - Yugoslav Airlines on a vintage DC-9 but remember seeing at SPU a number Aviogenex aircraft 727's, TU-134-s and 737's.

I read about them a short while ago. I'm sure they are still operating but they do more leasing work now than charter work. They haven't had a fleet update in quite a while though. They are still operating 727-200 and 737-200.

I remember them from MAN in the late-80s, when Yugoslavia was quite a popular place for holidays.

Aviogenex is actually one branch of a much larger Serbian based company called GENERALEXPORT or GENEX. The company is a bit of a communist era dinosaur and is involved in many different fieds such as:

Aviogenex was founded in 1968 and its oldest aircraft was made in 1975. Its newest aircraft (the 737-200) was made in 1982!!

Your dates are a bit misguided. The 737 was built in 1987, and the three 727s were manufactured in 1975 (AKD), 1975 (AKH) and 1983 (AKM), respectively.

For a while now, its been known that the Serbian government is slowly stearing GENEX towards privatization. It used to be a large and profitable corporation. As for Aviogenex, they have been on the news lately. The airline has once again started flying domestically (from Belgrade to Montenegro), since the return of the Boeing 737-200. I think the three 727s are not very active these days, and you can usually find them at BEG.

I used to work with Aviogenex at LGW back in the 80's. They were a great airline. Some of their equipment was a bit tatty but the crew were fun and the pax enjoyed the ethnic experience.

Flew them in the 80s, Oslo - Portoroz. Don't remember many specifics other than that we flew an old dirty TU-134. On the return to Oslo, the cabin filled with black smoke, so the we taxied back to the terminal and waited 8 hours for a replacement aircraft. Good thing we were still on the ground when it happened.
