Local news reports indicate that, contrary to earlier reports, easyJet has not yet dismissed the idea of operating from MAN and will make a decision early in the New Year. All the slots it applied for have been granted and easyJet says if it doesn't use them in summer 2005 it will reapply for them for winter 2005. The easyJet spokesperson is quoted as saying that it's only a matter of time before they establish services from MAN.

Interesting. Most likely they will serve both- LPL and MAN then. I cannot imagine that they would leave LPL because they are well established there and others would take up the routes immediately.

Aerlingus330 - this is the cover story on today's Manchester Evening News. Both an easyJet spokesperson and a Manchester Airport spokesperson were quoted and both confirmed that a decision had not yet been taken. Remember that there are many people on this forum with their own personal axes to grind who will report their own opinions as fact, so perhaps that's why there is confusion. Whatever the cause, the bottom line is thast easyJet may well be serving Manchester next summer.

LPL might be a pit peeved if the A319s came to MAN first!

Hi,

I can honestly say that I do not want easyJet to fly ex MAN. Its one of the few airports that you can escape EZY and others such as FR (bar their DUB flights)!

Hi,

Don't get me wrong, I like easyJet - I'm flying with them next month and have flown with them in the past. I just don't want them at MAN. I would rather it remain charter and scheduled airlines and if there must be some LCCs... just a few.

Well easyJet have had a chance to act for the past few years and given the bmibaby situation (no planned growth for the summer compared to last summer), they could conceivably eradicated them as a player at MAN and put paid to any other lo-co airline setting up shop. Instead we have Jet2 with 7 aircraft (we seemed to have gained an aircraft) and 12 destinations with rumours of anything up to 4 more destinations to be announced imminently, making the kind of declaration of intent of being the major player in the lo-co sector at MAN (and possibly northwest England).

It'll be something of a low-fares bloodbath at MAN if easyJet do arrive. Something has gotto give, and with an apparent lack of growth strategy, I have a sad feeling it could be bmibaby that are worst affected....
