Doesn't say what model... Most articles are basing it on the list price of the -300ER, may be the case?

Any guesses to who the customer is? Leasing company, perhaps? If an airline, what airline?

This is pure speculation, but it could be for one of the Chinese airlines...they seem to be on a shopping spree at the moment (see recent Airbus order).

I think it`s Ethiad because they thought of buying 5, 300ER`s

1 billion for 5? That could also be an order for 772LRs. That aircraft´s price-tag is very high as well. Although, in Euros thats becoming cheaper and cheaper now...

The Etihad order is old news. This surely is a new one.

Boeing's website, under the orders reports, shows that the 5 unidentified 777s are 777-300ERs. The order was posted on November 30th, so Bloomberg is a little behind.

On the orders page, click on "User Defined Reports" at the top. Then you can select the criteria for your search. For date range, I put Jan. - Dec. 2004, and for Model No. 777. It'll then give you a list of all the customers and models ordered. This list is updated at the end of each month.

I'm not sure if this is the same order, but there is an unidentified customer for 5 777-300ERs made on 30 November 2004, as Hoya mentioned...

I'm guessing Etihad has finally firmed up their orders for their intended 5 -300ERs proposed a couple of months ago...

They're leasing three 777-222ERs, but they're a long way off from ordering.

That, and their recommendation for an order is still the A340 and not the T7.... but doubt that'll amount to much of anything.

I'm not up to date on who's planning to order what etc... But I'll take a guess-Singapore?

SQ placed an order for the 773ER earlier this year, and it was for more then 5 frames. 13-18 I believe is what the order was for which still probably has to become firm.

This is probably the Ethiad order being firmed up.

What about the Thai order ?

I wonder why they publish these figures. I mean in a booming economy this is good marketing but what when they get more and more behind Airbus (or vice versa)- then it would be better to keep the orders secret like most other companies (in other industries) do.
Is there a special reason why they publish the figures or has it just become customary ?

well, I was told this afternoon at the China Airlines 747 Dreamliner event that this is the Ethiad order and will be announced next week.

Yes it does seem that this is merely the contract signing process of the EY order for 5 B 773ERs.

I think that CO would wait until the route to China were confirmed, otherwise, they would have the a/c and no prospective routes if it were a 773ER or 772LR.
Good for them getting the orders, they need them!!!!
I wonder how much they went for, I know they weren't sold for retail or even close to retail price!

NO, it is AVIACSA!!! Now that AM is dropping the CDG route 6A wants it!!!!!

No, seriously it could really be AM since although they signed initially for 3 aircraft, the plan is to have more to replace the 767`s in long haul routes.

When the 37`s were ordered it was confirmed almost after crews were in initial training!!!!!!!!! AM is very weird with fleet announcements.

what about KLM? they are happy with the 777's and with only 6 A330's on order to replace 12 767's it good be very much possible to replace them with 777-200/300ER. Also they shown very much interest in the 777-300ER a while ago....

MauriceB, good thought. I guess the 777-300ERs would be an excellent replacement/supplement to their 747s, and their brother AF operates the 777-300ER.

Either it is the firming up of the Eithad Airways order for 5 B777-300ERs (the Airbus orderbook should then show firmed up orders as well), or it is the rumoured Air France add-on deal for 5 + 10 B777-300ERs.

You guys 5 B777-200/300ER they are for Alaska Airlines, because they could make flights from ANC to FRA, ANC to LHR, ANC to SYD, ANC to AMS, and some other cities in Asia. During the summer.

I think we've established this is for the 773ER which SQ has ordered in a much larger quanitity then 5 frames.

If there is any replacement by SQ of the A345 by the 772LR then I doubt that we will see an order untill after the beast has flown.

But I'm just one man what can I do?

Well I'll go with Etihad. We all expected 5 firm from them and as Reply #30 states we could get the announcement this week.

That is a very interesting rumour. Did you note that when Boeing made their press release for the SQ 773ER contract that they referred to 104 773ER sales yet their site lists only 81 Firm (including this UFO) and SQ's 18 takes it to 99. Could AF be about to sign for 5 more before year end?
