Topic: Why Has The New Generation JL Never Flown To MEX?

I think the Mexican A.netters don't know that I am taking about so I will state it in brief. The JL11/12 flight to MEX flies twice weekly via YVR to MEX and there is one heading down there as I write thig but why has a new generation jumbo from Japan Airlines never flown to MEX? The new generation jumbo starts from JA8910-8922 and they have been to YVR on numerous occasions. For instance, JA8917,8920 are the two that I have spotted.

Is there a minor difference in the configuration for these two different types of 744? Or is it the difference of IFE or is it merely because of scheduling? JL 18 and 12 leave NRT only 25 minutes or so apart of each other but its strange that the Jumbo's flying to MEX are always equipped with MAGIC II and they are the JA80xx generations. Occasionally, I think I saw JL8901 fly to MEX the other week but that is not the new type as they start from JL8910. Does anybody know any information on this?

No idea Keisuke. Hopefully Ghost77 will see your post later this afternoon. He might know.

All I know is that until a few months ago, an older type of 747 was sent to MEX (-200, -300?... I dunno) and that, since then, it is the 744. I flew MEX-YVR-MEX with JL many years ago and I hope I can do that again in the not so distant future since service was great. I look forward to trying JL's IFE.

Thanks. Yes, it seemed to me that they flew in the -300's in most of the time. It was a -200 to Vancouver only but 300 for the continuing flights. I took this flight 3 weeks ago and service was awesome. And the IFE as you mentioned was MAGIC II on one flight back and MAGIC I on the flight back to YVR but they had tons of movie selections to satisfy me during my eight/nine hour flight.

I don't under what you mean by NG 747s but here's at least what I know.
JA8910-2 are for short/medium-haul routes because they don't have a crew-rest, therefore they only go as far as Hawaii or Australia. Hence you don't get these in Europe or N.America.
JA8913-16, 8918, 8919, & 8922 are three class low-density configs used for premium service NRT-JFK/ORD/LHR routes.
The rest are a hogepodge of three or two-class config planes. I can confirm that JA8917, 8920, 8921, 8088, & 8089 are two-class planes. Since the NRT-YVR-MEX is sold as a two-class service, it's rare to see a three-class plane on that route unless aircraft availability is an issue.
All the rest of the JA80xx planes are all three-class but have various seat arrangements.

Is a nonstop NRT-MEX in the range of the 7E7?

As explained above, we mainly have the 2 class seat configuraton B747-400s serving Mexico City but I've seen recently the 3 class configurations registrations on the route!

Do you know the registration for that plane?

Yes, I've seen since October 1st, JA8914, JA8915 and JA8918 so far. I guess those have a 3 class config?

Wow- that is amazing. Then these have the full reclining business seats and stuff. Is it that low-yield on this flight? I wonder why they can use such a low density ac for operations all the way to MEX. Yesterday's JL12 JA8078 was also a three class configuration but not the new generations jumbo.
