While reading today's newspaper I saw a quarter page size ad of Conviasa. They are offering roundtrip fares CCS-BOG-CCS for USD 150 + taxes. They're going to fly 4X weekly. (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun).

Those fares are way way lower than Avianca and Aeropostal. This is extremely dangerous for both private airlines that are facing the threat of unfair competition by a govt. owned airline that offer artificial fares.

Here's the ad:

With 4x weekly frequency it wont hurt anyone. But if they start more flights, it could be a threat to AV and VH as this fares are obviously below cost and the 2 airlines wont be able to offer fares as cheap without loosing money.

I agree with you, Conviasa is not going to hurt anyone, however remember that fares in Colombia are not established by the market but by the Aeronautica Civil. According with Aeronautica Civil the minimum fare for the BOG-CCS route is US$199.oo both ways so this is a temporary fare.

Still good to know that we have more flights to BOG.

They also updated their website.

Domestic destinations: CCS, PMV, BLA, MUN, CUP, CAJ, LRV
International destinations: BOG, GRD, POS

They're really gonna milk that 737-300  eyepopping . Any chance they're getting a second one?

It's impossible to fly so many routes with only 1 733 and a Dash7. I guess that they must be getting another 733.

Yes, acording to my information they wanted to start BOG with the second 733. And four weekly BOG-flights are not enough to justify a second aircraft, so this explains the new domestic destinations.

I totally agree with you. To say it clear: this is a further move into communism.  redflag  It hurts so see how this ill man is driving the country down !
In most of the other countries around the globe this would have been impossible.
Conviasa is killing jobs in the private airline industry. And I am very surprised that no one from the competitors airline management is trying to do anything on legal basis against that.

As much as I would love to see a Venezuelan airline back in European skies. It has to be a private one.
So I am very sorry to say....but I hope the end from Conviasa comes soon.  bomb

BTW: Congratulations Conviasa for this state-of-the art website ! I would say me and my Frontpage would make it better !  rotfl

Definitely, and if you look closely to the advertisement, on the bottom says, "sujeto a aprobación gubernamental", which means, "subject to government approval", which could be interpreted as not having the approval from the Aeronautica Civil (Colombian FAA) yet for that rate.

No doubt, http://www.conviasa.aero/ I know is under construction, but please... being in the marketing business, 40% of the online buyers consider the quality of the web site as the same one as the product itself... just a thought.

Yes, I haven't noticed the "subject to government approval" titles; still, that approval may be for the fare not for the flight itself because the billateral agreement between Colombia and Venezuela establishes no limitation on frequencies or equipment for Venezuela-Colombia flights.

One question for our friends in Venezuela: how are fares established there? the billateral agreement says that fares will be pre-established by the country of origin, it would be nice to know.

As far as I know the fares need to be approved here as well.
But I guess Conviasa, as state-owned airlines will definitely have no problem with that !
Although I don't like governments to regulate anything, in this case it's up to you to take care of the competition...

I just realize something: On the advertisement they wrote:
"Sujeto a Aprovación..." with "v".. OUCH..

Do they have a marketing department reviewing the ads before publishing?

Well, it's not that strange...

...if the company is state-owned, and the head of the state once said adquErir instead of adquIrir [to acquire] on a public speech, considering its the guy's native language, then we can expect anything...

That is a dollars rate. In Venezuelan Bolivares it is around $322,095
and in Colombian pesos it would be around $354.750

Hy guys....

I don´t see why all this complaints about a low fare. It it´s normal that when an airline starts a new destination it comes up with and introductory fare. I don´t see why Coviasa would be the exception. Lat week I bought a round trip ticket LIM-CCS-LIM FOR $150 USD plus taxes. Isn´t this an artificial fare????? Of course it is....that´s why it was only there for few days. Same happens to many other destinations and airlines.

What to worry about??? AV, VH , Conviasa it´s time to compete, who ever gives the best product and service will survive.

Private airlines loosing market share???? Well it´s time for private airlines to come up with an upclass service. I´m not saying that VH should become a BA, AF, LH or LA, but they can give a descent TA, LR, CM, AV service.
There will be market for everyone, for the chavistas on Conviasa and los escualidos on private top class airlines. The problem is that private airlines don´t even make the minimum effort to give a better service.

I´not against or in favor of Conviasa or the government. Being away from my home land for 12 years just makes me an expectator.

I would like to know, what´s Conviasa´s load???? does anyone now how´s their service. I would love to try them on my next CCS-PMV flight.

Is Conviasa in any reservation system???? what´s their two letter code????

Regards

JJJM

I agree with JJJM, I don't see what the fuss is about. It is just a marketing move to get people to try their product and then they move up to a fare where they stay competitive and get some revenue (in theory)

Now AV is "decent". I am sorry but I disagree. AV service is very good and I prefer AV to many international destinations than other carriers.

By using the discriminatory term of "esculidos" to refer to those who oppose Chavez (including me), you are in fact a Chavista. Only Chavistas refer to us the dissidents with that term.

Conviasa will be Chavez's tool to force private airlines out of business. Conviasa will offer fares so low that its budget will be quickly filled with red ink, but that's not a problem in a state-owned airline in a oil rich country like Venzuela. Private airlines cannot afford to have losses as Conviasa can.

I'm in favor of competition, but FAIR competition. Haven't you learned that the govermment cannot be a player and referee at the same time? This is definetely unfair competition. I just hope that this is an introductory fare that will go up to its real value.

Have you ever been in Venezuela the last 50 years ? We have a severe competition here ! We have around eight domestic airlines (excluding Conviasa). On domestic flights you get drinks, snacks and in the afternoon most airline have an open bar. On 35 minute flights !
Aeropostal has started a huge service quality campaingn.
On international flights you have the competition of the airlines you mentioned.
So what you say is completely wrong.

Quoting JJJM (Reply 15):

I just want to quote a member of the board of Conviasa I met: "You know, we will do what we want and fly where the president wants us to fly. We don't need to care about the money and any losses, we are state-owned."
And do you think they are the ones to improve the level of SERVICE ?
Do you think this will be a fair competition ?
Do you think Conviasa will survive because they offer the best service ?
Come on ! Wake up !

Quoting JJJM (Reply 15):

Of course they are still NOT in an international reservation system. Internally they use Gabriel.
The 2-Letter-code is V0 (Victor-Zero).
