I heard a rumor today from a friend who works for American that AA is considering/deliberating on several new liveries. That contradicts other info I read here several months back that AA is not considering a new or even updated aircraft livery any time soon. I'm wondering if anyone can validate or discount the rumor?

I don't know about a fleet wide livery change. Although it would be nice, as AA has not changed their livery since the sixties. I do know that the astro jet 757 is about to be repainted in the regular scheme. They are going to paint one of the new 737-823 in the astro jet scheme. I think that is great, the lightning effect looks terrific.

Well, there may be a lot of rumours in this forum that American is considering unveiling a new livery but I haven't heard anything about it. I don't think that they are going to change their livery any time soon. What is changing is the interiors. The current scheme looks good like that, don't you think? Yes sure some of you may be tired of seeing the solid blue/white/red solid line but I think they should stay as they are.
If they ever change their livery, they may modify the cheatline and make it a little softer and write the word "American" in a larger size (like Pan Am did in the 80's remember?) but they'll always keep a bare metal fuselage, I think. They will always keep that because they want to save as much weight as possible on the aircraft, that's their policy. The cheatline will still be red, white and blue although a bit thinner like I explained, the word "American" will still be written in red and the AA logo will have a redesigned eagle. The non metallic parts will of course be painted in light gray like they are doing right now, so will the engine nacelles. Of course, there'll still be the US flag on the top of the tail.

I don't think they will paint the fuselage but if they ever do it, this is what they'll do: they'll paint the top part of the fuselage in either light blue or shiny light gray, the bottom part of the fuselage would still be bare metal and the cheatline which would be as thin as that of United (you know the thin orange, red and blue cheatline between the gray and the blue) would be the separation between the paint and the bare metal. That's my idea of a new corporate image, with the redesigned eagle. That would look great wouldn't it? The future will tell.

PS: The AA 757 with the orange lightning scheme from the 50's, I saw it at Chicago O'Hare three weeks ago on my last trip.

The 757 RetroJet will remain painted as is for a extended period of time. The 737-823 RetroJet will be out around the end of August of first of September due to the Boeing strike, a few planes are delayed in delivery. No new AA colors, at least not in the near future.

So it's a fact that AA will NOT introduce a new livery within, say, the next year?
