I received an e-mail the other day that had some shots of the interior of a plane. It said they were of the Sultan of Brunei's A340, but I have no way to confirm this. I figure I'd show them to y'all anyways because this is an incredible interior, plus maybe one of you can confirm that this really is the Sultan of Brunei's plane.

I have done extensive searches on the net for custom a/c interiors and this is in the top 3 for sure. There is one on that Lufthansa Technik did (747 I believe) that may top it. Not as much gold but classy.

I highly doubt if that's gold chrome. At least the sink could be real gold. I know a particular Saudi Prince who's 727 he parked in LAS quite a bit was real gold.

It's interesting to see, and highlights how different aesthetic tastes different cultures have.

Very true. I live in an area of Los Angeles populated by many Persian and many Russian immigrants with a good amount of money. If you aren't Persian or Russian and you are looking for a house, you can tell which houses were decorated by which nationalities. Just a different cultural aesthetic. Marble and gold are very big.

The pics also show the interior drawbacks of the A340 for personal jets. Those side walls slope dramatically compared to a 777 or 747.

The fresher the money and the lower your education, the more gold you need to hide it. And Gold can look really cheap. Thanks for showing an example. There are worse around, though.

I don't think the Sultan of Brunei is "nouveau riche". Arab aesthetics puts more weight on decoration than Western people can often appreciate.

Even in Western culture you can see that e.g. Russians and Americans often prefer more decorative solutions than Europeans, and the Japanese are most minimalist. Even inside Europe, traditionally at least the Catholic nations go for more intricate and detailed decoration and we Scandinavians like to build white walls and plain wood surfaces.

Nowadays, however, things are getting more mixed.

Arab "royalty" and pro sports players (especially NBA) are not known for their tasteful interior decorating choices.

As has been said, yech... For good taste you can always look at a BA or SK lounge. Understated is the way to go.

I'm sure it's all really expensive, but also really tacky. Sort of a "Pimp My Ride" does an Airbus widebody deal. Hideous.

Is really really bad taste. the idea is good, but all that gold is really too much kitsch. How's the plane going to takeoff with all that weight?  Naah I love the 340 but he could've ha better taste!!

Oh how I'd love to make one for myself! But as said, it's all a question of tastes!

If money could choose its owner, it would never choose the Sultan of Brunei. This particular aircraft has one of the most horrible and tasteless interiors I have ever seen.

Yes, I got this email before too, it reminds me very much of the SV Royal MD-11 jet that I have been onboard, its pretty much identical in the interior, except less pastel colors and of course an MD-11 is cooler than the A340.

Speaking of The Donald (I can't stand that guy), his 727 is worse than this aircraft. Too much gold! It's sad that he ruined such a classic trijet.

It's extremely decadent, but it's just too *blingbling*. Somewhat comparable to the f-class from EK; very luxurious and probably one of the best f-classes from any airlines, but all that gold is just too much in my opinion. I'd rather prefer the more modern abstract look from Virgin with all that red and silver.

As far as tasteless goes, weren't the Sultan of Brunei and his brother accused of luring beauty queens to the sultanate and essentially holding them captive? Oh, and Penthouse Pets too, i believe.

I remember seeing a story about this on one of the primetime TV shows (i'm thinking 20/20 on ABC in the US).

But yes, mirrors on the ceiling denote a certain lack of taste. Maybe there's a heart-shaped tub behind closed doors that would complete the look....

Well I gotta say that the blue couch in the bedroom doesnt fit into the rest of the colors, and it is kinda tasteless... some of it looks nice, but in general I think it is too much

I've seen beds with belts.

I assume the beds and seats are bolted down onto the floor beams, otherwise wouldn't they be bouncing against the cabin walls during heavy turbulence?

But Id rather have an L-1011-500 or a A340-500,

If I sure had the money, Id soup up a 767-400ER luxury jet.

But I still feel the need to add a standard cabin section in it to show the
real tradition of flying, perhaps Id put normal cabin up front and then a bulkhead and door to enter the house in the aft.

I'd take it, tacky and all.

It's almost trashy, but still something money about it. I'd take it over my 2002 Honda Civic to go to work everyday.

Well for anyone wondering why the carpets all have ugly and ornate custom patterns in them that fit the exact space they are in, this is rich people's way of saying: "look at my ugly carpet pattern, it exactly fits my jet. you know it's custom made for me because of that. no off the rack patterned carpet for me. now kiss my butt."

Actually the hallway carpet is kinda cool. Plus you dont need good carpeting in you own damn plane to tell people how rich you are
