I sent them a request for information, but never received anything from them. They want $8 million for a letter of intent. That would take some trust, wouldn't it???

Press Release
Startup Discount Airline to be based in Saint Croix
Saint Thomas, VI, March 4, 2005: X Air_Lines, Inc., is a new consumer airline in its formative stages, based in the United States Virgin Islands X Air_Lines announced that it will start its services in Saint Croix in 2005 as a low cost discount airline. But before it can take to the air, X Air_Lines must line up investors and get approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation -- a task that involves answering more than 22,000 questions. X Air_Lines said it would hire more than 200 flight attendants, pilots, maintenance technicians, engineers, dispatchers and other workers at its operational headquarters in Saint Croix. The airline has 6 employees working in Saint Thomas. They are helping the airline compile data to prepare for X Air_Lines DOT application. Before the airline can submit flight applications to the federal government, it must secure financing, X Air_Lines financing will be concluded over the next few months. While acknowledging the poor state of the industry, X Air_Lines executives said they would offer an attractive service and believe their business model will work. The airline sees opportunities in attracting customers looking for low fares as well as a high-quality experience.
X Air_Lines said it has been evaluating the offered aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. The aircraft manufactures have to put up a good deal for X Air_Lines to budge. The airline won't say how many airplanes would be bought or leased this year. X Air_Lines is looking into agreements to buy and lease up to 50 aircraft.

Where is the O&D market for the Virgin Islands, there isn't enough to support an airline with up to 50 aircraft. (?) These islands depend on tourism as a source of income, that's a highly seasonal industry. Maybe I'm missing something that they see. |

Topic: RE: Caribbean Airline For Sale On Ebay Username: Flybyguy Posted 2005-06-28 17:00:07 and read 3621 times.Opening up an new airline in the Caribbean is a folly. All of the Airlines currently in operation can't rub two nickels together on a good day. You'd probably make more money investing in an interisland bridge network, I'm sure people would be willing to pay $25 US for tolls to the neighboring islands as opposed to the $150+ dollars it takes for a 20 minute plane trip. |
Topic: RE: Caribbean Airline For Sale On Ebay Username: Bennett123 Posted 2005-06-28 21:57:33 and read 3420 times.$8M for 20% values the airline at $40M.
With no prospectus, no indication of a business plan, no apparent assets etc etc etc. |

The whole thing sounds EXTREMELY optimistic. |

Well in that case, everyone here on A.net can buy it!!!! It'll be part of "A.net Business Enterprises" A great source of revenue for our bar that we're buying Sunset Beach Bar Is Closed (by Panaman Jun 17 2005 in Civil Aviation)
Hahahaha. "Hey man, I got a ski resort I'd like to sell on top of that mountain a little bit north of Miami. Best setup ever, all those Floridians who want to ski and can't afford to fly north to do so. You'll be a milionaire!!" (After buying) "Hey what the hell, there's no mountain here! Give me my money back!!! *look around* Hey where'd ya go!?!?" |

lol! An airline for aviation nuts, owned by aviation nuts. Let the opinions fly! I could see it now, no one would ever be satisfied. The boardroom would be more noisy than Donald Trump's! Everyone would have good intentions though!

It'd be interesting. You'd have route planners advocating SXM-MAF or somesuch 'because it'd just be cool to see a 727 at MAF'. You'd have tenders out to Boeing for the 747Adv, 772LR and 787 as well as Airbus for the A388, A35X, A346, because 'it'd be so cool to have a widebody'. Then you'd have folks trying to ditch the 727s 'cause they think anything not borne of Toulouse isn't airworthy. Oh wait, sounds just like A.net!
