Does UA still use the 747-400 to fly from ORD to LAX w/out continuing on to another airport? I flew on this flight back in June 04' and it was completely full! Are passenger loads still high enough to use the 747-400 on this route?

I wouldn't think so , the aircraft would no doubt be continuing on to a long haul destination from LAX ( i.e SYD). It is a way of making more profit from 1 aircraft utilization

UA has not used the 747 to do ORD-LAX/SFO at all this summer unless it was a swap. All of the 747s are being used for increased international flying.

So on the flight I was on back in June 04' was one of the last 747-400 flights from ORD to LAX? When did they stop this a/c service?

I was on one July 4,04 . Whata ride! Though,the 777 coming back was much nicer.

I was on the last scheduled UA744 LAXORD on Oct-30 2004. Great ride!

What do they use in its place? A 777-200? Why did they stop using the 747-400? Just for int'l use or for other reasons like pax loads?

No, now the 747 for the LAX-SYD flight comes in from Denver. And that is the only 747 flight from LAX. NRT and LHR are 777s.
