One of their Image Makeover company Alya Co.'s job was to make minor changes in its logo. I see that AI has already implemented this on their website. Nice!!

Aiming higher??....hmm...Doesnt look better this way!

It looks goofy.

But they do need a massive makeover of the airline. Its one shoddy product overall.

It'll be interesting to see how this will translate into a new (or updated) livery. Still, I like it. It looks classy. Will the Maharaja get a new suit as well?

Well, as long as babus and their bibis get over-riding precedence in the front of the plane, Air India's First and Business Class products will remain the same - hangouts for freeloaders as well as friends & families of Air India employees. Agreed, up front you are better off with other airlines. But then you also pay double!

It is in economy that Air India is now scoring. The lack of old generation IFE means more space for feet. The food and the booze is limitless, and Indian food holds well at 35000 feet and above. The blankets are huge and actually well washed/dry cleaned. Most of all, there is none of that artificial "have a nice day" b/s, it is either straight grumpy or truly pleasant. At least you know what you get!!

But the best thing about Air India is that on many planes everybody gets to see the same movie, it is like being at a multiplex! Nothing beats the experience of joining hundreds of passengers swaying and singing "Kajra Re, Kajra Re" together . . . I mean, have you been on an airline lately where passengers ask for the same song videos again?

Air India should patent this.

I personally think, and after a meeting with Mr Thulasidas this opinion has been confirmed, that Air India is headed back towards its glory days. As the Indian economy removes its socialist legacy (despite this government) its airline too will improve massively. Watch out for AI in the coming years.
BTW, the Centaur logo on top of their building has not been changed or lit up in the last few months.

Spot on, but to add, Air India will be one of the international airlines from India setting the standards and benchmarks worldwide. This government or any other is not relevant, the momentum we have in India is too far advanced.

Ever flown Malaysian or Emirates? They have lots of legroom, wonderful IFE, the food and booze is great and plenty, and they serve Indian food that holds well on an airplane.

An airline HQ'd in India's entertainment capital should be at the cutting edge of providing IFE for its passengers.

Maybe AI should wait until the year 2020 when holographic moving images may be available for 5 cents.

Perhaps they should wait until 2090 when airplanes fly on magnetic lunar waves instead of relying on fossil fuels.

You miss the point completely. Airlines are judged by existing standards. And for the average passenger suffering through an 18 hour flight, a choice of IFE is the current standard. Maybe you like singing a Bollywood song with 400 other passengers all being forced to watch the same crappy movie on a flickering screen, but most passengers do not.

That's right, and that includes legspace in economy instead of big boxes blocking it, friendly and trained cabin crew instead of unhappy individuals worried about airlines packing up and most of all, for those interested in state of the art IFE, the latest in portable DVD players where you can have a choice of thousands of movies as well as games or whatever you want.

Why wire up already complicated planes then?

9W service is fast gaining recognition for being of the best in India... I have to give them all the credit for that, and that also explains why customer feedback has been extremely positive. There's no doubt that it's the people who make a company what it is....

Based on my contacts with Indian, I'd say that Indians are naturally hospitable people, but correct me if I am wrong, isn't 9W's current service standards and procedures a result of SQ consultants (ex-cabin crew etc) being engaged to train them to the service levels that they have today?

You misunderstand me. I am talking about the next step in IFE. Why wire up the plane?

Just finished checking out on a wireless IFE based on some elements of stand-alone clip-on seat-back LCD monitors with built-in memories supplemented with wireless feeds for those willing to pay - target price below 30/- rupees ( 65 US cents) for existing non-IFE aircraft in India. For those not willing to pay the 30/- rupees, drop-down monitors on the aircraft for the safety and other announcements as well as in-flight route map and time. (Yes, increasingly people in India seem to want a clock in the aircraft, probably since many people stopped wearing wriswatches and have no idea of time with mobile phones in OFF position)

Price of the rental for the portable monitors on board concept is offset by advertisements, incidentally.

AI's logo, change of logo, or anything similar is the LEAST of its problems.

Have we forgotten its inattentive staff, old airplanes, IFE's made of trash, and unreliability?

Maybe the old uncles, aunties, and others don't care if a flight gets delayed 70% of the time, with rude f/a's, crappy interiors, no ife, etc., but most of us do, and we choose to fly elsewhere.

Even if AI comes to IAH next year, I sure as hell ain't giving up my LH/AF/KLM business class seat to fly AI's rustbucket local via 10-stop to India.

While I agree with you about the state of AI's cabins and its tatty IFE, you exaggerate immensely about the airline's delays. All my transatlantic flights on AI have left and arrived on time. The last EWR-CDG flight I took actually arrived 45 minutes early.

And all their flights to India are 1 stop flights. If you go on to Madras, it will be a 2 stop flight. It will be 2 stops for you even if you flew AF or KL who do not offer flights to MAA.

Plus, AI's Business Class seats are considerably better than what KL/LH/AF offer on their flights to India (unless they are all offering an upgraded J Class product to India). They're not up to BA's standards, but what is?
