Yes... I just saw in on the High-A concourse headed for ONT in PHX at about 1:30pm local time.
I thought it was at the wrong gate.... but then oops.. I remembered... it's N679AW, btw...

i want to see a pic.

You may want to edit your Subject... You said A230.

On N679AW, there is a sign immediately to the right of the L1 dor that says "This Aircraft is Operated By America West Airlines, Inc.".

That sticker/sign is on every America West aircraft.... even in old scheme.

It's not the same one you're thinking of. The one with the old HP scheme contains the heritage logo. This is a plain sign, the first of which shows up on ship 679.

I don't know how many US 757s are painted in the new livery yet but one of them is currently in LAS at gate A8 - I believe it's heading to PHL. I can't read the tail number from the camera we have but it sure does look beautiful

I personally can't wait for it on the A330. That'll be one sick looking bird.

Ship #679 is brand new, just delivered on the 15th of December, that is why the sticker aircraft operated by America West, similar to the AA aircraft that had TWA LLC stickers by the front door.

If I'm not mistaken, there is only one US 757 in the new colors which just entered service like a week ago.

DLCnxgptjax is correct, N626AU is the only US 757 in the new colors, however N605AU should be on line Dec 22nd currently being painted in ARA.

Nothing cute about it.   However, the standardized heritage logo is near the L1 door as it is (in the photo) on N109UW. The plain black-on-white "This Aircraft is Operated By America West Airlines, Inc." signage is located about 3 feet below it.

By the way, the rampers have already started referring to the Heritage Logo as the "Circle of Death" since all those logos dissapeared after US acquired them. I like that nickname - very fitting.

HPLASOps

I have some pics that a coworker took of the new A320 and gave permission to me to post them on the website. They are very amatuerish in nature (standard camera with no special lenses or training/experience in photograph to enhance image, etc.). I'm not a registered photographer and I really don't take pictures of planes very often, but I would like to post those pictures on here. How do I go about doing it? This website seems to be very protective of the way pictures are handled around here (and I don't necessarily think that's a bad idea either).

I like how the second, perfectly informative, photograph was tossed in A.net's rejections bin...   

Note the Heritage logo and the small-type "This aircraft operated by America West Airlines, Inc." in the lower right hand corner of the 1L entryway. Right where it would be for, say, an Express-operated aircraft, or the idiosyncratic "MidAtlantic Airways operated by US Airways" labeling.

The Star Alliance logo is painted on because, well, US Airways is part of the Star Alliance, so... they don't want to throw anyone off.

But it's really a mystery as to when HP-operated flights will be able to credit as Star Alliance. US has set a date of Jan. 4 for when the America West brand will go away... so maybe then? Or maybe it'll happen in February, when the frequent-flyer programs of the two carriers are merged? Or maybe it won't happen until the certificate merger, as you surmised.

So the answer is... anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

It's gonna take at least two more years before all the aircraft are painted in the new livery, and it sounds like the US aircraft are getting painted first. I have not heard a specific date on when the two flight certificates will be combined - I don't even know what the standard length of a certificate is and if all airlines stay on the same timeline, etc. I don't see the HP brand completely dying till at least mid 07 though.

Might be true. It just sounds strange, that considering they are keeping the US name, you would think they would want to get rid of the "wrong" name livery first.

Actually, that's precisely why they are painting the US first. We chose US over HP because US had more nationwide brand recognition. Therefore, we decided it would be better to paint the US aircraft first, keep all US passengers flying on US aircraft with new colors, and then bring the HP pax over to the idea of flying US. Much better that way. Plus, the reason why they chose a white top for the new US livery is for the AZ and NV deserts. White reflects heat better in the summer time, meaning less fuel is used on the APUs to keep the aircrafts cool while parked at the gate. Getting those painted first was also a priority, and the already white topped HP aircraft can wait.

The frequent flyer programs are being merged in March, that's when all Star members can get miles on HP operated flights. Yes the brand of America West will start disappearing (fairly rapidly from what I understand) starting Jan.4.

HP first.

They want to kill the HP brand (RIP) and the dark blue US planes aren't going to be coming west in any quantity until the certificates and contracts are merged (2007?) so the heat issue isn't that big of a deal.

Both at the same time, with the HP aircraft being done at a quicker pace. They want all the HP colors gone by the end of 2006. They're aiming for the end of 2007 for the US planes to be all repainted. (Most HP airport signage is being changed over on January 4.)

A/c 679 the recently delivered AWA A320 with the new US Airways paint job was scheduled to overnight in OAK tonight....

The only reason some of the 767's and 757's are getting painted first is because they NEED the paint more.

That sounds reasonable. Any plane that NEEDS a paint job, will get the new scheme, regardless of what it looked like before. I was thinking more along the lines of repainting just for the brand name.

Yes, aircraft N675AW thru N679AW, there is an upgraded (and much more comfortable) interior. The question was raised if we will see an upgrade on the rest of the existing fleet in one of our news letters, and nothing has been planned to upgrade any other interiors. So for now, whatever comes out of the factory is all you'll see.
