As the title says... does anyone know if any of these great birds are still in service in 2006, anywhere in the world? I've just been looking at some of the photographs on Airliners.net and I was reminded what an amazing looking airliner it was / is.

I agree with you that the Caravelle is a beautiful airframe. I would also love to know if there are any active airframes out there. I used to fly through CVG quite often while flying for XJ, and on the far end of the field there was an old Airborne Express Caravelle sitting in the grass. Does anyone know if that one's still around, or why it was there? I don't want to hijack the thread, so please list any active airframes before addressing the Caravelle in CVG. Thanks!

There's an ex-Airborne Express Caravelle in CMH which used to be part of an aviation museum on the airport grounds. The museum closed a few years ago & was torn down.
The Caravelle was moved to the east end of the airport for a while before being parked by the airport fire station. I doubt that it's still airworthy, although it very well could be...can anybody shed any light on this?

There is also one at the museum in Hartford/Bradley. Airborne Express. Was lucky enough to fly on two in France in the late 80's.

You're both right. There used to be one at CVG and it was used by firefighters for training. The one at CMH I remember seeing a few years ago was according to a friend of mine moved to a museum but I couldn't tell you where. ATL even had one at some point years ago, by the air cargo stand, but it's since been scraped. A shame too.

According to www.airlinerlist.com there are no more Sud Caravelles flying. All have been stored, written off or scrapped.

Yeah there was a Caravelle in Gabon, flying for Gabon Express.
But after a crash in 2004 (read the article here: http://www.afrik.com/article7359.html) they shut down their opperations 
What a shame...

The CMH Caravelle is still parked by the fire station, and I believe is used for fire training.

Exactly, I have a cockpit DVD of that one, with a great air-to-air sequence. After the crash of one of their HS748's it appeared they didn't insure their aircraft and had to shut down operations. Anybody know what happened with that aircraft?

Last December when I were in FIH, I seen a pair of Caravelles parked near the terminal.
If I don't remember bad, Waltair titles were along of the aircraft. Am I wrong???
Any idea?? Has Waltair a web site to know about it???

This one is stored at ARN and belongs to a club called Le Caravelle Club, and apparently their mission is to make her airworthy again. At the moment they're only making monthly engine runs to keep them fresh, but apparently one day they'll try to get back the certificate. Anybody know further details? The website has been down for quite a while.

That one, IIRC was in their restore shop for a bit recently. IIRC all the restored planes there are airworthy, but I highly doubt it still would fly if it could, at all, its been there since like '97 or earlier.
