United has recently agreed to sell the rights for JFK-LON flights to Delta for an amount in excess of 13 million US$.

When I heard this, I my first though was "How sad". I still think that, but the second thought was about feasability. Delta is not really allowed to fly into LHR, but UA's slot ist at LHR. So DL would probably operate out of LGW, as that is where they have thir other flights to ATL. So is UA only selling the slot in JFK and the route to Delta. In that case, who is getting the slot in LHR?

Just wondering...

Yes, this has been discussed extensively already when it first came out (thread is now archived I believe). DL is buying the authority to fly between New York and London from UA. Since DL is currently not allowed into LHR courtesy of Bermuda II, DL will have to operate JFK-LGW. UA's slot at LHR will apparently be leased to AC.
