Hi everyone,

I would like to know what is the current situation at EDDF regarding the area formerly occupied by the USAFE, especially the parkings.

Are they used / empty / refurbished?

In case some airlines (Cargo) are using the parking spots, could you please help me to ID them?

Is there still some "heavy" military flights here and there or are they all redirected to Ramstein?

The latest info I could find on this forum are dated September 2005...

TIA

Hi!

The ramp area formerly used by the USAF was used extensively during the World Cup 2006 in June/July 2006. They even refurbished the old USAF terminal for use by fan and team flights. They put 500000 Euros in it which in my opinion was a big waste of money. Of all the flights announced before the World Cup only about 10 per cent really operated due to the difficult slot situation in Frankfurt.

Now most of the area is mostly empty but they use some of those parkings for remote parking aircraft with long ground times (arriving in the morning, leaving in the evening) like CX, QF, MU, MH. They expanded the existing cargo parking in south (S501-S508) by another 6 or 8 positions (S601-S608).

What follows are some shameless plugs of my pictures showing aircraft in the aforementioned parking positions...  Wink

All these pictures were taking before or during the World Cup 2006. The JAL aircraft is shown on S901 (near the highway spotting bridge) on which long ground time flights are parked. The Air Zimbabwe B762 is shown on S601, the extended cargo ramp. The FlyJet B752 was parked at the USAF terminal for a fan charter flight. The Star Airlines A320 was parked on that remote position for a longer time before they started operations.

I hope I could help a little here...

Best regards,
Chris
