Interesting choice. Once weekly with the 738 starting Feb 17, 2007. This will be in addition to ATL-POS which is starting in December.

I believe BW flies MIA-TAB and BA also flies to TAB from LGW through ANU.

Interesting choice.

Isn't it? GND can't be far behind. And what about GEO?

The other relatively 'large' one not currently served is SKB - I'm sure it must have been/is being considered....

GEO is in no way, shape, or form a tourist destination, so definitley not from Atlanta. JFK-GEO, maybe.

I am surprised AA has not beat DL to this destination. MAH4546?

AA has flown to Tobago in the past from San Juan. It is a very small market. AA will take a wait and see approach, and likely see how Delta does in smaller Caribbean markets (all of which, sans Tobago, AA already serves from San Juan) before going it on their own. Not to mention they don't really have the aircraft to expand. In 2-3 years, I think you'll see MIA-PTP/FDF/GND/TAB/ANU/BON on AA.

This is once a week service... nothing to get particularly excited about. Usually, when a place like this has once a week service, it is likely to be a subsidized flight of some sort, either through some sort of travel bank, or the flight is being sold wholesale to a travel agent for package deals.

Absolutely right! the Gov't of T&T has been pushing to have more traffic serve the islands and has also been on the move for greater tourism to support the growth in the hotel and accomodation facilities in both T&T. Expect this flight to perhaps have been courted and encouraged by T&T. I don't think the GOT&T would directly subsidize (every carrier would ask for subsidies) but perhaps some sort of tax break or other incentive such as reduced fees or something would be in the incentive bundle. From what sources tell me, the GOTT will only subsidize routes that are essential to trade and communications and which are deemed of some national significance such as the routes to Cuba, Santo Domingo and Costa Rica last year/ 2 years all in an attempt to boost trade and communication with those countries.

To be honest, TAB, while it is small, is one of the few tourist markets to be on the rise. There have been numerous articles in Caribbean press about the decline of tourism in markets such as ANU, GND, BGI and JAM. GEO is not a tourist destination and is quite unstable. I also believe their airport is in no way, shape or form in a condition to support proper international travel- note that Guyanese tend to transit through POS for all/ most of their travel needs!!

However, it does come as a suprise since the POS flights have not even started. I would have expected those to have had to prove themselves worthwhile and perhaps be increased to a daily flight before flights to TAB were considered!
