Check this out! Is it true ? I presume the DC-10 woud have crushed the car underneath it!

I think this has been posted before, a couple of months back if i am right.
Quite good though nevertheless.

No offense, but I'm not sure how any a.netter would confuse that video as being real   Just look at some of the camera angles, impossible to get on a real airliner. Also, you would have heard about it all over the news if an airliner shut down the freeway in LA to make an emergency landing. It's a well done video though...I love the ending

First saw this about 6 years ago on Stile Project, if I recall correctly. It is, however, an impressive piece of work that has stood up very well over time.

This video is total BS. 1) The car would have been crushed underneath the weight of the plane, 2) It would've been all over the news, 3) The freeway probably would've collapsed under it as I think it is an overpass.

Again, no offence intended, but, really, look how fast the car is going and how slow the DC10 is approaching......... totally unrealistic to think a DC10 could fly that slow. However, it is a funny video............

Folks, you have to use some "intellectual discretion" before creating a new thread. Re-read what you've written and ask yourself "will this make me look like an idiot?" If the answer is yes, delete it all and move on.

This thread certainly doesn't put France in a good light.

So, the answer is yes, it might be possible for an aircraft to land on a freeway (it's been done before as stated above) but there is one factor that to me screams out "NOT EVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!" Because, we all know that old ladies don't drive well enough to risk taking one hand off the wheel and giving someone the finger. That sealed the deal for me as making it unrealistic. Oh, what's that? The car wouldn't be able to support the plane? Ok, then maybe there's two reasons it won't happen.

lighten up guys. This is the first time that I see it and I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting it. By the way, I don't think the poster's intention was to make you believe it's real. It's obviously a production and it's funny. Sitback, relax and enjoy the flight.

Better than someone asking if that video is real is the fact that so many people chimed in to answer the "question"

If a DC-10 tried to land on a LAX freeway, it would hit every Caltrans sign for upcoming exits along the way. Never would happen.

Close, it was a racetrack. I think it was a fueling error at YYZ and it had to make an emergency landing amongst go-karters.

Yes, the famous "Gimli Glider" event:

The link goes into better detail but an Air Canada 767 (C-GAUN) was successfully deadsticked onto a Canadian airport (Gimli: CYGM) runway that had been converted to a civilian raceway (in race use at the time of the incident!). The article makes a sideslip sound a bit unconventional but the feat was amazing no matter how you look at it!

Could a MD-10 land on a freeway, I would say no because of the light poles and road signs. The Gimli Glider was a unique case, there were no road signs or light poles. Amazing that the pilot of the 767 learned to fly a glider as a cadet at the same airport as a kid!

Could a SUV support a MD-10? Hmmm... anyone here have a SUV and a MD-10?

The original version is better than the compressed version on YouTube....it was produced using top of the line equipment. Seeing it in its original form is even more impressive.

The one thing I always wondered, Why land on the 405 when LAX is just right there?
And one more aviation-nerd observation, this aircraft would have to be going north/south over central L.A., that never happens, its always just one big game of ring around the rosy, east to west, and west to east.

Still, one dang funny video, even if it was a hundred years old!

This aircraft landed on a closed runway, that was converted into a drag racing strip. C-GAUN fin 604. Still kicking around today! I have heard the pilot was fired by AirCanada for the error he made with converting fule weight LBS/KG. And boeing thought the pilot was genious and picked him up as a test pilot. But that part is just a rumor.
