Agreed, the other thread is about the disappearance of the America West 2008 Superbowl Champion Arizona Cardinals themejet. The new plane is nice enough to warrant its own thread!

Why is the new US only using A319s for the Themejets?

Only one minor complaint, would it have killed them to put the AZ Cardinal head decal on the engines too?

They probably still will. Everyone knows that US repaints all of its logojets about two weeks after they first come out.

Of course I'm exaggerating a bit, but they did do that with the PSA, Allegheny, and Piedmont jets - so who knows? It could happen.

Cute looking plane. Well branded! But ONE BIG MISSTAKE they made. It would have been soo much nicer to paint the wings in red. It's a bird! I know their logo is a bird head but they've could taken advantage to use the wings, now it's wingless bird. Pitty, pitty, pitty!!

"Hey US Airways, my wings are red with a bit black. Why did you give me white wings?"

I think that's the exact reason - 319s (AFAIK) are currently only to be used domestically or at least to places that have a clue what football is (or have a clue where Phoenix is).

I think sending a theme plane overseas really cheapens the look of the airline. Now that 757 is available... except I doubt it has ETOPS cert. It can at least go to the Carribbean.

They will probably change it to look much better. They are old schemes and these new planes weren't in mind when designing them. They just have to do the best they can to make it look ok the first time, and if it doesn't, re-do it. They did the same thing with the Piedmont and Allegheny logo jets.

They could have easily just repainted the 757. But maybe for costs, a smaller plane to paint is economical. It'll still be missed regardless.

Does US Airways have a marketing agreement, as the official airline of the Steelers? I believe that what the Cardinals, Eagles and Panthers all have in common. Actually what would be neat is to have a plane painted in each NFL team colors, they got enough of the 319's.

You know (Not at Jmc...) 2008 is in almost a year away. And at the current rate that the Cardinals are going, they are NEVER going to win a Super Bowl...let alone, a NFC Divisional Championship. Their offensive line just suck.

About painting wings. Together with Bradley Shaw of Mansion and Faircount Onpack Media we designed the flybe logojet livery for Gibraltar based gaming company Mansion. Almost every detail on the plane is painted. All wings are in black. Paintjob by Sprayavia, Norwich (UK).

But some have mentioned the effect that would have in terms of weight. I don't think I have seen an airplane with painted wings. I don't know if someone else has, and would care to show a photo, if it is possible that would awesome for this livery.

However an easier alternative would be to do something with the engines, as this is what people really do see and it will enhance the livery. The engines white as they are now, gave the effect of someting missing. I have a feeling that US AIrways as they usually will revise this livery.

Captaink, don't be afraid for the weight matter. Airbus and maybe other manufacturers always paint their aircraft wings with a neutral white or grey so that paint is replacable for another colour.

Nicely done OwlEye, nice colors. Gaming company? I bet they payed well too!  Smile

I agree as well, painting a plane in a colorful way doesn't mean it'll be heavier, that is a myth.. I've seen planes that go for maintenance and they get sanded down or stripped completely. It doesn't matter what color you paint them, paint is paint and it'll weigh the same. Might as well do it nicely.

I loooved the yellow wings on the Balair A310s.

Hurray for MIAMIx707, finally a myth refuted. Airline companies must become more aware of those wingpaint possibilities. I'm aware about re-selling and leasing difficulties with tailored painted wings though it's worth to have painted wings in matter of ultimate branding.
