"Why should airline passengers pay more aviation taxes than a rock star flying in a private, corporate jet, when airline passengers don't fly like one?"

For example, an airline Boeing 737 operating from New York to Chicago with airline passengers pays $1,356 in aviation taxes. Yet the same Boeing 737 operated for a rock star will pay $276. That's almost 5 times more taxes for the airline passengers on the same aircraft on the same route. How is that fair when the rock star and other corporate jet users can easily afford the same taxes paid by airline passengers?"

"With airlines using less than 70% of the aviation system but airline passengers paying for almost 95% of it, aviation taxes should be changed so that airline passengers are no longer forced to subsidize the operation of corporate jets for corporate executives, rock stars, real estate moguls, and other wealthy individuals."

Most taxes are attached to ticket prices. If the B-737-BBJ only carries 4 pax, then only those pay the fee, while the B-737-700 with 100 pax, each paying into the taxes. But at landing both aircraft will pay about the same landing fees (based on max landing weight). Many taxes pay for airport improvements, TSA fees, and ATC upgrades.

While I agree that we airline pax pay way too much taxes. I do double connects which means I pay about $75 in airline taxes on a $250 tix. Heck my short trip to LAS from SAN had a 50% tax on it.

I would not call student pilots learning to fly wealthy. Most can barely get enough money together for their private. We already pay via fuel taxes. The gov't wants to make us pay X's 4 in fuel taxes. Plus a fee to the FAA every time we get a medical, get a new rating, every call to the FSS for a wx brief and every single time we use any type of FAA service like flying through class B airspace. I am sure this list will grow and grow. These new taxes will weed out many new pilots and also guys who fly beat up 172s on weekends. I would not call us rich. Although I do agree that corporate aviaton needs to pay more this can be done in other ways without destroying GA. Many pilots have said they will either quit flying or will fly a lot less which in the end makes the FAA get even less money.

I would call the Private Pilot an average guy. How would the average guy or gal who gets a drivers license like to pay a fee every time they renew. Or pay x's 4 on fuel taxes, or pay every time they drive to a major city, or every time they check they wx or call to see what driving conditions are. Every time they get new tires they have to pay a fee.

Basically the new taxes on aviation is like one giant toll road.

Last night I bought four round trips from FNT-MCI.
The airline fare was a total of $699.00. The taxes and fees totaled $247.00..
total was $946.00

Now who is the cash cow?
Celebrities or dummies like you and me?
