Seems that it's happening to JQ again! 300 passengers are stranded in HNL due to a problem with JQ's A330-200.

The same thing happened to me on the inagural flight from MEL to HNL. Does anyone know the registration of the plane? It would be interesting to see if it is VH-EBB, the same aircraft we had problems with.

Hi Safs, the aircraft in question is VH-EBA

JQ only have 4 aircraft and if 1 goes U/S then there are going to be delays!

I don't think there next lot are due until August?

Even in Hawaii, if you have to sit around a terminal for a day or so because your aircraft is broken and all the hotel rooms are booked (spring break) and there's nothing to eat but some greasy Chinese food and Burger King (Hungry Jack's for all you Aussies), then yes it should be called getting stranded.  Wink

I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone would think that being stuck at an airport is a great thing to happen--regardless of where the airport is. There's no beach at the airport. You keep being told the plane will leave soon, or the next morning. And then it does not. Sounds awful to me.

Sounds like the airline didn't step up to the plate like they should have, but I don't blame the state of Hawaii for that.

"But the plane has not left the ground, and Jetstar said it had been unable to charter another aircraft or find seats for the stranded passengers."

Could they not find seats or an aircraft or is it alot cheaper to let people sit around in an airport and then put then in a hotel for a couple of hours. Air NZ had a flight out on friday night via AKL and Air Canada do HNL-SYD Daily - you can't tell me they were completely full. Will not do Qantas's image any good either as they quite happily market the flight as Qantas so Oneworld members and people from not downunder here will be thinking they are travelling on a trusted brand of Qantas not there cheap off shoot Jetstar.

Just wait to till the qantas buyout when the new owners have billions of dollars of debt to take care of - then you will be lucky to get a free bottle of water for a 2 day delay.

The City Bus goes to HNL just pay a buck or two and just go down to Waikiki stop.  Smile

Maybe so, but to be fair in this case JQ is an LCC by every definition. They got the passengers (who had only paid an LCC fare) to where they were going eventually. Considering the fare paid and the airline concerned you clearly get what you pay for when the the aircraft goes tech far from home. I know that sounds harsh but that's the truth of it.

If you are going to be there for two days, you don't have to sit at the airport for 2 days.

They will (or should) tell you when the plane will leave, and you should be able to go and do whatever the hell you want. A real airline would put them up in a hotel. Who knows what JQ does, since they are an LCC.

...from the news reports and reports from the passengers arriving home today, they weren't told anything about when the plane would leave, meaning that they had to stay in the gate lounge until the plane was ready to board.

Not the best customer service an airline can give if these reports are correct...!!!

Well, its not like there are any airlines with aircraft just sitting around at HNL that they could charter. Even if you could get a replacement aircraft to HNL, it would still take another day before they could leave because of crew duty regulations. Also, if you read the Brisbane Times article it does say that some pax were rebooked onto Air Canada.

Not the best idea, especially when the aircraft could be fixed while your in town, and then you miss your flight. It only pays to leave the airport if the airline lets you.

As a consequence - a friend of mine in Melbourne tells me! - JetStar had to charter a QF B767-300 to operate its MEL-DPS-MEL service over Sat/Sun. I know that they don't usually like to do this because QF charge them commercial rates, no favours done here just because its a sister airline!

Cheers - BZF

When our JQ flight was grounded overnight due to the fuel leak, (JQ Inaugural flight MEL to HNL) customer service was lacking. I echo the comments made by passengers on this current JQ flight how they were kept in the dark.

As more incidences like this happen, staff at JQ need further training in customer service!

For 95% of people Jetstart = Qantas. It's about time QF woke up to the fact that JQ is doing Qf real harm. Buy a QF ticket and get a ticket that says "operated by Jetstar" . I guarantee those people were not sent to the beach for a day of relaxation.

There's also QF4 - I wonder how many were put on that?

Yes it does sound awful, but I doubt it would have been much different if it had been a QF flight. There have been numerous situations with QF where similar things poor cimmunications have happened.

I doubt QF really care. They act in similar ways with some cancellations

just flew back from maroochydore this afternoon on jetstar and am not surprised this was handled poorly. we were delayed for two hours and due to one of the flight attendants being sick. we were not made aware until the flight departure time when they asked for 25 passengers to volunteer to be left behind - what a joke. eventually 40 minutes later they called out names of passengers who were forced to stay behind. when we were finally airborne, the flight crew did not appologise for the delay - it was like everything was running as usual, until we finally landed in sydney (after an missed approach) two hours later. very unprofessional. they did not keep the passengers in the loop at all.

Not sure how much? I understand that on the inaugaral Mel-Hnl service, JQintl asked if QF would operate it on their behalf, but then baulked at the asking price (not confirmed - so don't quote me!!!!!) at around $300K for an aircraft & crew. Maybe a QF staffer can confirm this amount?

Whatever the figure is, it's the left hand giving money to the right hand. It doesn't really matter, it's just moving money around !!!

Faced another problem on Sunday
Jetstar delays passengers again

QANTAS offshoot Jetstar is on the back foot again after two of its planes missed Sydney's landing curfew on Sunday night, delaying passengers overnight and prompting the cancellation of an early-morning flight to Hamilton Island.
The incidents meant the airline, already defending delays on its international route that left 300 passengers stranded in Hawaii, had to accommodate travellers at hotels in Geelong and on the Gold Coast.
