If you check DL's new ETOPS 757 service for October, for example, it is being sold as all coach with the seating chart reflecting 6 rows of standard domestic FC seats, the first four rows being designated for medallions. Now everything we have heard so far had led us to believe that DL would receive these ex-TWA 757s with Business Elite seating and AVOD at all seats already installed.

So why is DL selling this as an all coach flight with the previous cabin layout? This is really curious.

Purely speculation - but it may be a time to market and fleet utilization situation. Get the pool of a/c operating the routes and then re-equip them as per airline requirements. That way, if 10 of these 757 arrive, 9 can be in use, and one at a time be sent to MX for the re-equip rather than have all 10 in MX for the re-equip.

And make no mistake - DL really needs more mainline aircraft.

They did the same when they first introduced the 764s on transatlantic flights. B4REAL hit the nail on the head.

A pretty good deal for the time being for people "in the know" travelling to Europe on one of these 757s. Even non-Medallions have 2 rows of "first class" to chose from and those 21 inch wide seats would be a mighty nice way to make it across the pond while paying coach airfare.

AA served BOS from SNN. DL and EI are the only airlines now on the JFK route, while CO serve EWR from SNN.

The newest deal with Shannon is that it's SOL with the new EU-US agreement.
AA has already discountinued the not-so-old BOS-SNN route already, and IIRC also announced plans to end ORD-SNN as well.
As for DL, they last summer added JFK-Eire service on a triangular routing similar to the ATL one, with seperate flights to DUB and SNN during high season. Once this summer season is over, JFK-SNN will be DL's only flight to SNN, as
they won't bring back their ATL-DUB-SNN-ATL/ATL-SNN-DUB-ATL routing either.
Plus AC has also announced their intent to drop SNN from their network.

Led to believe that this is the desired end-state, yes. It makes total sense though - short term - operating all Y in the existing configuration.

The last day for ATL-SNN service on the 764 is 9/29. I believe DL will run to SNN only from JFK from now on even into the summer of 08 with no more service from ATL but I may be wrong.

FWIW, the other know 752 route is JFK-EDI with no more ATL 763 service.

The aircraft may have C class seating, BUT Shannon is simply not a Business Class market, so it's best to sell it all as Y Class, perhaps with a premium for the J Class seats.
