This is an interesting article/white paper from a few years back.

It seems that the A3xx is inevitable and the 747x is losing and may even never be built. That is the feeling I'm getting. Would any company who has already pledged to invest in the A3xx ever consider purchasing a 747x Stretch? It seems unlikely, otherwise, why would they not have gone with the 747x in the first place.

Anyway, it seems that if Boeing had gone ahead with the 747-500x and 747-600x earler in the 90s as they originally intended, they might have gotten airlines on board already and the A3xx might never have had a chance to take root. It seems that by cancelling the 747-500x and 747-600x, Boeing opened the door for the A3xx. It seems like it may have been a fatal mistake as now the A3xx is going to eclipse the 747-400 as the most prestigious and well known commercial aircraft in the air. Your thoughts on this?

Give B747X and 747X Stretch some time. I am pretty sure that one day it might be winning over the A3XX.

Bear this in mind, most 747-400 Operators like United, British Airways, Air Canada, Cathay Pacific etc have NOT yet ordered the A3XX. There is always a chance for Boeing as these two new products have only come up for a while.

The B747 will always be the 'Queen of the Skies'!

Just some idea

There is stiff competition going on between Boeing and Airbus..WHo will win..
For over 30 years, Boeing dominated the market with airplanes.. And its my favorite company, not only do they make good planes, My first name is the first two letters for BOeing..
But as I see it, Airbus is gaining and soon they will rise with the A3XX,,.
I think Boeing scrapped its 747-5/600s but not sure if they brought it up again..

I'm just suprised that Boeing has no orders for the 747x yet. If it went head to head with the A3xx at Singapore and Quantas and lost, why would any other airline not choose the A3xx as well. Boeing had some interesting marketing things to say on their web site such as greater range and more economical and efficient, but obviously the airlines who decided on the A3xx did not think so. And I doubt the airlines would fool themselves. Now that those airlines have commited to the A3xx it would seem that it is so much more unlikely that they would ever purchase the 747x once they have commited to such a big investment. And is it not especially telling that a once all Boeing Qantas decided on Airbus with the A3xx? I'd like to see an order for the 747x to keep the competition, but can you blame the airlines if the A3xx is indeed a better solution? Can you see a situation where the 747x would win an order?
