I found this on United's website and found it interesting. Throughout their website United is written as United Airlines, but at the bottom of the web page it's written United Air Lines. What's up with this?

I think they just call they self as "UNITED" which dropped the word "Airlines", like Delta.

Well, to be technical, United Air Lines is correct.

I think they were Air Lines 40 or 50 years ago, but I'm guessing that at some point they officially changed to Airlines.

The parent company is United Air Lines Corporation (UAL Corp), while the airline is "United Airlines".

I always see "airlines" but at their SFO facility, it says "air lines". What gives?

You can see the same thing at Chicago O'hare on United's hangar, it says United Air Lines. Back when United changed to the flying U from the shield in 1974, they consolidated Air Lines into Airlines.
