I have only got this from Wikipedia (so please don't use this as a reliable source!), but it states that both British Airways and TAROM are going to start flights to London from Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

BA to Gatwick in March 2008

TAROM to Heathrow in October 2007.

Can anyone confirm any of these?

At this point is just a simple rumor, Tarom will operate 3 weekly on a Bacau - Cluj - London Gatwick route as of Oct 28.

British Airways is also eyeing Transylvania but my guess is they will hold back until Sibiu's airport gets fully operational (new terminal and runway extension) Considering BA's move into T5 at Heathrow, March 08 seems a quite realistic date for opening a second destination to Romania.

Tarom doesn't hold any spare slots at LHR ( other than its daily OTP run), while BA could very easy accommodate an additional tree weekly at T5.

Surprisingly though on how slow is BA moving onto other Romanian destinations. So far BA tried to use OneWorld partner Malev (via CarpatAir codeshare) to feed a quite juicy capacity on its Budapest to Heathrow run !!!???. Nova days seems that LCC's are sort of cannibalizing that, so a fresh approach is needed. Austrian, Lufthansa, and even Alitalia are operating directly from their hubs on alternate Romanian airports with a good degree of success.

Talking about London-Transylvania, don’t forget W6 flies LTN-TGM 3x weekly.

I would be shocked to see BA do Cluj-LHR. Cluj-LGW maybe. If WAW cant sustain LHR service with BA, I doubt Cluj could

True, a more realistic BA's three weekly LGW-SBZ ??? ... but than again, as Pe@rson said it above why not choose a cheaper alternative with Wizz Air between London Luton and Tirgu Mures TGM. Distance between Sibiu and Tirgu Mures stands at about 100 km. Same between Tirgu Mures and Cluj. For that very reason I think that any Romanian airport to LGW route, would be unsustainable. The only money maker would have to be LHR due to BA's variety of transatlantic routes.

Considering Tarom's "zero" codeshare agreemets beyond LGW, its planed Bacau - Cluj - London Gatwick won't fly for too long either (unless the price would be in line with the ones currently offered by LCC's)

Following Romania's entry into the EU, OTP-LHR services were/have been upgraded from 737 to A310's.

The payloads in passenger terms require this both ways.

Prior to the EU membership, RO struggled to fill it's 737 out of LHR, (although full inbound).

Maybe there will be need to serve Romania beyond it's gateway airport.
