I dont normally do this but I'm getting desperate.

Our pipe band is going from Toronto to Scotland this march and we are looking at travel arrangements, me being the aviation know-all of the band Im required to find the best possible (and cheapest) flights.
I can go on AC to LHR and then to Newcastle then on to Aberdeen (the starting point of our tour) for just under 1000$CAN. What I need to know is there any other way to do this? Any relativley close big airports?
The subject of going on C3 to Glasgow came up, but I dont know, are there even cheaper possibilites?
Or other alternatives to get from LHR to Aberdeen? ex. the train?
I travel to europe at least once a year, but it never involves flying into smaller regional airports.
