Do the Rockies use a major airline or a charter company to fly to away game venues?

I had heard they had their own aircraft, but I can't verify that. (that was told to me a few times within the last few weeks) I know it isn't Frontier, and do not think United.

Frontier is the official airline of the Rockies, so I'm sure they fly the team.

You sure about that? After Game 2, two flights left from BOS in the middle of the night. One was DL 9838, which was the Red Sox charter:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/D...8/history/20071026/0634Z/KBOS/KDEN

and F9 8426:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/F...6/history/20071026/0658Z/KBOS/KDEN

which I assume was the Rockies' charter. These were the only two I could find that were not regularly scheduled flights between those two cities.

Frontier is the Official Airline (signs all over the ball park as I sit here watching the game), but we do not fly the team.

Yea the DL flight was the Sox and i'm almost positive that the F9 plane was for the Rockies since F9 no longer flies to BOS

We had a few different charters for fans during the games in Boston. I asked our charter department specifically during that time about flying the team and it was mentioned that we did not, but that we did have a few charters for fans flying to BOS.

I know this is off the topic a bit...but the MLB Texas Rangers and NHL Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks just purchased a B757-200 for his teams to travel in...must be nice. Link below!

i was also wondering if it was F9. After game 2 of the NLCS, there was a F9 flight PHX-DEN, but no other flights. So I figured they must have been doing it.

It appears that 727 routed DEN-RFD-BED and back with the Rockies. Can it not make it nonstop?

That 727 is the Rockies' plane, it was seen landing at BED by one of my coworkers who lives in Bedford.

Yeah, I saw that also. I do wonder why DL had that aircraft sitting on the ground at MSY for 10 hrs. I guess they found it cheaper to have it sitting @ MSY all day than flying it from DEN to ATL so it could be used and fly another aircraft to MSY closer to departure time...unless it would have sat at ATL all day anyway.

Sports charters are so interesting

first you follow the team like a cult following, then in addition to your aviation madness youre tracking your team at night flying from city to city, crazy. I did that for Laker games last year.

Mr Hicks might be able to afford this thing after Alex Rodriguez opts out of his contract..... with the Yankees! Seeing that he is still paying him 21 million dollars a year to be the MVP of another team.

According to the Denver Post, the Rockies flight had to stop for fuel on the way back from Boston. They arrived at 0500 at DEN after the game 2 loss to the Sox.

And the 727 is the Rockies plane. I saw it at the FBO at DEN a few weeks ago. At first I thought it was a FedEx 727 but upon closer viewing it is a pretty nice looking aircraft.

I have a feeling that the Rockies magic will runout tonight.  Sad

Frontier handles lots of "Rockies" charters, but it's not the team. It's family and friends.

Looking at the picture of the 727 and hearing this makes me laugh and think of Major Leagues, when the owner strips the team of their normal charter for a prop plane. That's an insult in my opinion, to have to make fuel stops in the middle of the night, after losing.

Also, why did they fly into BED instead of BOS?

It's about advertising. The billboards all over the stadium provide exposure to the flying public.

It's the same reason why you can buy plenty of Bud and Miller even though you're at Coors Field.

As for the Red Sox, they will be flying home today and landing at BOS, I am willing to bet there will be quite a large crowd waiting for them (Much bigger than the pathertic reception the Indians got where only 1 fan showed up).

Let's do the math here (1919- present): RedSox have two championships, Yankees have 26. Adding the five the Sox won between 1903 and 1918, they have a total of seven. No comparison.....but props to the Sox on winning number seven.

Lets do the math here. Between 2000-2007 Red Sox 2 rings, Yankees 1. Yankees consistently have had the highest payroll in the league by far yet have not won a championship in 7 years.

Good luck to the new Jow.
