hey, just read that air Transat will be increasing their seat pitch in both the a310 and a330's next may. It is going to be increased to 32". This should be good for passengers especially travelling across the Atlantic.

What's the actual seat pitch already ?

I think it's about 29 inches or around there, or so they claim. Feels more like 19 inches if you ask me.

Thanks for that. Any particular reason why TS is doing this ? Too many complaints ?

Great news!!
After flying YYZ-AMS last winter, I promised myself that I would never fly long-haul on TS again due to the extremely uncomfortable seating. A 3 or 4 hour flight is bearable but anything over that is pure torture for someone who is not use to charter carriers. I would imagine that this move is in partly due to the direct competition TS faces from AC, Zoom and others on flights to London and other trans-atlantic flights.

I know there is only a small chance, and maybe expecting too much!

But is there any chance of them reducing the number of seats accross from 9 to 8 on the Airbus widebodies?

Another item said the change was from 30 to 32 inches, with A310s going from 259 to 249 seats, and A330s from 362 to 342. Both types have cramped 9-abreast seating which isn't changing.

That is true of every plane but the Airbus A330-342 C-GKTS which seats 2-4-2

They have gotten a horrible rap from everyone I know who flew them long distances and have all vowed never again. There is still the segment of the population who will fly whatever is cheapest. However I only think this will help them get travelers who wouldn't fly them otherwise. Air Transat still is doing quite well and I believe will continue to do so.

Thats the problem for me - Im only 5'7" so 32" pitch doesnt bother me, its the width of the seats thats the problem, I couldnt get my shoulders straight, and Im by no means large. I only used them because they fly to EDI and thats where I needed to be, but I guess thats how they can offer the fares they do.

The articles I've read mentioned 29-30 inches depending on aircraft, however, I can't figure for the life of me which one already has 30 inches, certainly not the knee crunching A330's so must be the A310's with the current 30 inch. Don't know, don't care, not flying them again, twice was enough for my lifetime  Wink
