BR announced that they will start flights to Miyazaki (I think to KMI) and Komatsu (I think to KMQ) somewhere at the beginning of next year. Frequencies unknown.

Also they will fly 3~4 times weekly to LAX from KIX sometime next year.

Will they be the only carrier on KIX-LAX then?

Seems like it could be a money maker for them.

That would depend on whether the Taiwan's Aviation Administration would give CI permission because they had two incidents this year meaning that they cannot apply for new routes for a year. I doubt that CI would let this money making route get dominated by BR.

Osaka - KIX is one of the most expensive airports to operate from in the world. Mnay an airline has started flights there only to cancell them later, BA & AA both did that.

How? Is it because it is a man made island or is it because they are building their new terminal and need more money??

But a 5th freedom route is more likely to succeed than a terminating route.

KIX is well suited to a 787 operation, but until that time, it's not that easy to consistently fill a 280 seat plane with high yields. But if 100-150 of those seats were filled by through traffic, then you are only needing to fill 100-150 seats with O&D to/from KIX on either end.

Initially, yes. VN's proposed SGN - LAX service, slated to begin late October, 2008, plans KIX as the intermediate stop.

Sounds excellent. It will probably be on a 773ER, if it comes to reality.

Yes, BR will be the only carrier on the route. Will it be a money maker? Who knows?

This hasn't prevented an explosion in regional flights. Its just that long-haul demand from the Kansai-region has dramatically taken a downfall over the years.

The Japanese government is pushing carriers to use KIX and NGO. There are proposals to help make these airports more attractive to carriers. Everyone wants NRT, but it will not be opening new slots for a few years and even then it won't be enough maybe. Using 5th freedoms will be very very important for these two airports. Because of this KIX and NGO management have been talking with airlines with 5th freedoms to increase ops. They are also talking with airlines that have expressed interest in expansion or new operations. DL has been having meetings with NGO and KIX and I think FUK as they have rights to fly to all three (from their previous ops in Japan). They don't have 5th freedoms but they are looking at using smaller planes.

In the next 5 years I think we will see JL and DL relaunch LAX flights with 767 or 787 aircraft. I wonder if NW had another A332, could they do LAX-KIX?

Oh yeah one more thing: Miyazaki and Komatsu have been getting nice boosts in regional traffic as of late. Didn't they both get Korea and China flights recently too? (Miyazaki's Governor is doing a kick ass job at his job, maybe he should run the country.)
